Christian16 which, shows once again that science and religion should go together. Generally speaking, scientist up until the 19th century were Christians.17 It was only after the 19th century that the term ‘Science Versus Christianity’ started to be used, which shows the lack of knowledge of where modern Science came from, and that is the Church. Science and religion were at peace with one another for about 300 years, which shows that science and religion should not be at conflict with one another, but they are allies. This only happens when science has been taken from its foundations in the Judeo-Christian values that we have conflict. It shows that one will become successful at the expense of the other because the values of what science was built upon have changed. They are allies first and for most and need to be used together. This here shows a problem with atheists generally. They like to make remarks just like Harris did, but they do not understand the history of what they are claiming is built upon or as mentioned earlier they tell part of the truth and back themselves up with facts. However, there is a shift happening with the discussion of science and religion. Harris is seen to be a modern Atheist. This is seen with the way he writes within his book. Harris is up to having a conversation and sees that truth is objective, hints the reason for his facts to back him up. He isn't going with the postmodern perspective, which truth is subjective and based on feelings. Harris sees knowledge as attainable and desirable. He wants people to know about religion and its flaws (that is the reason for him writing the book). However, Harris has detached science, something that he has a PhD in and speaks on regularly with that it was built upon, religion. Science and religion need to go together because religion has objective and moral truth, so once you detached science from religion, science becomes subjective and no longer grounded facts. Take Stephen Hawkins for example, yes Hawkins was a brilliant man and helped science leap forward, there is no denying he was an intelligent and gifted man. However, many postmodern scientists praised his theories and made them as facts. People need to realize that theories are theories until proven otherwise. Hawkins’ theory of Dark Matter has taken a massive blow and looks like it has been proven wrong,18 and many people understandably would be upset with this discovery. This is what happens when you take subjective truth and make them objective, or in other words, theories as facts. This is also precisely when people take religion out of science. Truth becomes subjective. So Harris, one of your greats, who denied God many times, was proven wrong. People cannot separate the two; science and religion belong together because they balance each other out. Religion without science is truth without being tested, and people become naïve and believe whatever is told to them. On the flip side, science without religion is the means of testing without morality and objectivity, it becomes subjective, and people will follow their feelings instead of rational. Harris has claimed science and religion, and that should not be together. It can be seen historically and through a modern perspective that it does. However, Harris is a brilliant man who wrote a book and backed himself up with facts that showed that he cares about science and information and about having a conversation. To anyone who wants to read his book Letter to a Christian Nation, please do and come to it with an open mind. He will challenge anyone who sits on the fence about this issue with science and religion to think and observe what they believe in.
