Name:Nextixochitl Clanricardae Alias:Smokevine Niche:chemotroph/filter feeder Evolved from:Smokeworms Description: Smokevines are semi-sedentary chemotrophic organisms that reside the west and southwest of typon, in deeper waters, typically around hydrothermal vents -Feeding Smokevines possess valves in each appendage which filter through water to gain organic and inorganic resources(such as sulfur). Each valve links up to the organism's center, which has two cavities: a digestive chamber and a synthesis chamber. The synthesis chamber takes in inorganic materials for chemosynthesis and the organic chamber digests organic material for energy. Note that the synthesis chamber is much larger than the digestive chamber -Lifestyle Unlike its ancestor, Smokevines are much more disposed towards movement. They will move around slowly, in search of inorganic resources to gnaw with their "mouth"(made of modified appendages with bristle structures). They have active cycles and dormant cycles. Typically they have active cycles during resource abundance and dormant cycles otherwise. During active cycles they will move around to find resources while in dormant cycles they will be sessile. Under demanding, stressful or desperate condition it will shut one of its valves and flush it with acid to consume an appendage. Their populations are fairly spread out to avoid competition -Growth and Reproduction Smokevines reproduce asexually similar to its ancestor, though differently in that the process is much more complex. During resource abundance the Smokevine will grow a flesh wall between the two chambers and the mouth and eventually grow two of them, and then when it is ready will split down the middle. Both offspring then take time to rearrange their appendages before going their separate ways. They will grow as many appendages as they can with available resources.
Probably the most complex creature I’ve made in a while. Unfortunately the first time I made the description it didn’t save so I had to rewrite the whole thing.
