bio: (shortened for scratch notes) long version: https://scratch.mit.edu/studios/50748555/comments/#comments-301654424 short version: xochitl rayo mendoza (first name pronounced zow-cheel) • girl & she/her • she is unlabeled • 16 • child of tlaloc [(aztec) god of rain and storms] • powers: lightning absorption, electrokinesis (purple lightning), controlling electric systems and cameras/lights, summoning storms and controlling natural ones. • she keeps a small arsenal of tiny (finger-length) pure-silver daggers/knives within her mini-purse. while most of these were collected/stolen by her from random stores or shops, one was gifted to her by her father. its a mini xiphos dagger, though it can grow to a half-size if she wills it to, as a bolt of lightning will hit it and it will instantly change. this dagger is completely silver, and its handle is silver as well. it has symbols of tlaloc and other aztec letters upon it, though she can’t read it. however, despite having all these ‘weapons’ she prefers to fight with her lightning, considering herself to be a weapon on it’s own. she mainly uses her knives as conductors for electricity, or incase she needs to cut something. • xochitl was born in san diego, california to an undocumented woman known as “lucia mendoza”. her mother fell in love in tlaloc, in human form, but basically knew from the beginning that he was a god. lucia never wanted kids, but ended up having one anyways. as per tlaloc’s request, she kept the baby (xochitl) and together they named her. after the birth of xochitl, tlaloc showed up less and less, and naturally, lucia saw the correlation and blamed xochitl, becoming a bitter person, which drove tlaloc even further away. as lucia was already struggling by herself before xochitl came, she could not afford to get by with both of them. due to this, xochitl was often starved and neglected. eventually, lucia found her comfort in drinks and other relaxers, and married a man named shawn to financially survive, and shawn quickly began to physically abuse the both of them. when xochitl was five, lucia had a child with shawn. (a boy named josue, xochitl’s younger brother.) he was also treated badly, but he and xochitl bonded over their trauma and became very close. eventually, the truth about their situation was brought to the authorities, and xochitl and her brother were both taken by child protective services. in the process, they were separated, and each matched with different foster families. this part especially had an effect on xochitl which contributed to her blunt personality and her act of a wounded dog, as the one person she had loved was ripped away from her. with no support system, she was now 14 and worse than ever before. for the next year, she bounced between foster homes and eventually ran away, looking to find her brother. she spent one year searching, but came up with nothing; until tlaloc showed himself to her. it was raining, and xochitl was on top of a hill in her state park. she didn’t notice him at first, and /definitely/ didn’t think he was a god, until he put a hand on her shoulder, and spoke through her mind with glowing white eyes. she quickly found out who he was as he explained himself to her, and told her he had been watching her. she asked about her brother, but got no firm answer. just when she was about to leave, her father asked her for a favor: to not spend her life dwelling on the past, and focus on preserving their future. she turned around to yell at him, for leaving her, abandoning her, and not being useful, but when she turned around she saw that he was already gone; vanished into thin air. in his place on the ground, was her silver xiphos (a gift from tlaloc). since then, she’s been dwelling on his words, searching for her brother, and surviving by living in unused homes, moving city to city looking for him and finding some friends (and foes). in the past, she had always been secretive about her powers, afraid of being persecuted. but when more and more demigods started revealing themselves, she decided that she as well would openly present as a demigod. she was tired of hiding in the shadows and being cast aside; it was time for her to be in the light. • yes, other people can use tlaloc as their godly parent, but their parts of the god’s story can’t conflict with mine. but ultimately yes they can use tlaloc since i don’t know how active i’ll be, and i don’t want to hog this god. • “if i am a sword, i am a sword made of glass, and I feel myself beginning to shatter.”
