Yes, you heard that right, Flash was faster. Let me ramble for a moment- It was always Speed Mystic tradition for the children of the King to take a special test, which mostly focused on physical skills and traits- like speed and the ability to climb tall cliffs- as well as a few, small trials based around intelligence, which usually didn't end up mattering much in the final results anyways. However, what differed from Static's version of this test and past versions was one key detail. The people taking the test would always be taught about and informed of the tradition beforehand. Whether that be through one quick speech, or throughout their entire lives. However, Flash- and his siblings, had never been informed of this tradition, or what taking the test really meant. So, by extension, Flash had know way of knowing that by winning the trials.. He'd automatically become Heir to the Throne. His siblings hated him for winning, even though he had no clue what was going on. In their eyes, he'd stolen their chances at something he made clear he never even wanted. But did any of that matter to Static? Flash offered the position to his sister, who had been in second place, but Static said it was against the rules. And when Flash had asked Static why he didn't tell them what was going on? Static just laughed, shrugged, and said he had wanted everyone to try their best regardless of what they wanted. So now, this left Flash stuck in a position he'd never wanted, with half his family hating him. Flash blinked. Static had been talking and he wasn't even *listening*. Flash figured it was better to say SOMETHING, so he nodded and muttered a quiet "Yeah,". Static snorted. "Oh, so you *were* ignoring me?" Flash hesitated before awkwardly shaking his head. "Wh- y..N- NO!" he yelped. "I- I was listening!!" Static frowned and growled a little. "Pay attention next time." Flash had been TRYING to pay attention, but he was tired.. really tired, and he was having a hard time focusing. "...sorry.." he mumbled. Static just sighed, plastering that smile back on his face as someone walked by. "I guess you'll know to listen this time." he sneered. Flash didn't say anything. "You're going to see how fast you can cross this pit without getting your paws stuck in the mud." Static explained half-heartedly. Flash hesitated. "Shouldn't I.. be.. learning how to take care of the *kingdom*? I.. I can already run across pits of mud." Static eyes narrowed at his son's reply. "You'll do what I *say*. You're just a kid, you don't know what you're doing." he snapped. Flash just nodded slowly, feeling that knife beginning to cut into everything- his thoughts, his very mind, until all he could think of was how he couldn't make Static angry, at any cost. After all, he was still in a good mood. Flash sighed. "A..alright..sorry.." he replied quietly. Static didn't say anything to Flash directly as he left, but Flash could hear the things he said under his breath. "I'm worried for this kingdom, with the way that *he's* acting."
