It'd been a few days since meeting her and I still had no clue of her name. I didn't know her mate's name either. They referred to me as "little one", never asking for my name nor revealed their own. They only brought me water pods, never any type of fruit, vegetable- god. I craved meat. I was still recovering and getting used to using my new paws, thus I couldn't hunt or travel long distances. "Why won't you guys bring me any actual type of food? I think the nutrients in it would make me recover faster." I asked the she-cat. She just looked at me imploringly. "In this part of the safe forest, there's only water pods." She replied. "In addition, since of your new- plant counterparts, your body doesn't really need the nutrients that come from anything outside of water." I frowned slightly, but she didn't notice and padded away. The tom-cat had been silent for days now, usually sleeping at the trunk of the tree the den had been carved into. "Whats wrong with him?" I muttered. She instantly whipped around. "Don't you dare say that about him. There is nothing wrong." She snarled softly. I flinched. She had never shown aggression. Her eyes flickered, briefly turning amber, before back into pale blue. Wasn't her mate's eyes also amber? Was I hallucinating? She stalked away before I could apologise. "I'm sorry." I whispered to nobody. The she-cat curled up next to her mate, and they slept side by side. I watched them quietly before trying to stand up again. The plants slowly supported my weight, allowing me to stand. I stumbled out of the den. I was leaving this place. I didn't even think the she-cat nor her mate was breathing, as their chest did not rise again.I walked into the moonlit forest, leaving the cleared out area that I had called my home. "Farewell, she-cat and her mate." I breathed, and I turned to leave. As I walked further and further, the faint smell of something burning embraced me, clinging onto me desperately like the grasp of an old lover.
