Locust’s home wasn’t safe. It wasn’t friendly. But she wouldn’t leave her family, no matter what happened. Or, at least, that’s what she believed, until that fateful day. Snakes. Snakes everywhere. They’d killed her brother, Twig, which had been tragic, but now the family was careful. Diligent. Quick. Smarter. One day, Locust had been dozing off on the smooth shiny rock above the cave they lived in. Suddenly she heard a high-pitched yowl from below her and jerked awake, and she spotted one of her brothers, Soot, flinging himself about, a snake stuck to his leg. “Soot!” she screeched, jumping down to help him, but by the time she reached him he had landed on the ground. Gone. Fast forward to the future. Two of her sisters had been bitten, as well as her mother. Her father was distant, leaving just Locust and her older brother, Frost, alone in their home, surrounded by the snakes, slithering through the grass, hissing. Climbing on top of their cave, Locust and Frost were out of reach, but not able to sleep. Eyes darting. Suddenly Locust’s paws slipped and she scrambled to regain her balance, but she was tottering on the edge of the rock. “Frost!” she squeaked anxiously. He came to her and pulled her by the scruff. “Thank you-“ she began, but her brother didn’t let go of her scruff. “What are you doing?” Frost’s eyes were glazed over, his expression blank. He thrust her toward the edge, and the snakes below twisted around one another, hissing and lifting their heads to await her. “Don’t do this,” she begged, but he had made his decision. He let go and she fell, giving him one last desperate, confused, betrayed look before the snakes struck. Why did Frost do it? She’d never know it was truly because he was trying to spare her from what was really happening— Rogues surrounding this camp because of a deal he’d made with them turning around on himself. Frost was trying to give her a less painful death… But he betrayed her nonetheless. ; yeah sorry thats sad i had few ideas!! haha..
