It seemed like any normal day. It WAS any normal day, to Jax at least. His mother sent him off to school with his lunchbox and a k!ss on the cheek. Jax walked to school, met up with his friends, and walked into school. “JAX! YOU’LL NEVER BELIEVE THE NIGHT I HAD, MY CAT THREW UP AND THEN MY DOG ATE THE THROW UP AND THEN-” Mia, always a bundle of energy and gossip. “Okay, Mia, too loud.” Daniel, the tall, chill emo kid. “Hey guys!” Ana, Jax didn’t know too much about her, but she seemed nice. She and Daniel had been friends since 3rd grade, he was the one who invited her to join them in the mornings. “Hi Ana.” Jax said quietly. He wasn’t the most outgoing of the friend group. Even Daniel was more likely to start a conversation than Jax. They walked to their usual table and started eating their assortment of breakfasts. Daniel had packed his delicious homemade rice (Plus some for his friends), Mia had Lucky Charms, Ana had some weird inky stuff he’d never seen, and he had a bag of Lays Doritos. “Who wants Daniel’s homemade rice?” Daniel asked. Everyone nodded eagerly, he passed them each bowls of his special rice and smiled as everyone gobbled it down. Ana sprinkled some of her inky stuff on the rice. “What’s that?” Mia asked. “What?” Ana asked, confused. “That black stuff.” Mia said, looking at the goop. “Oh that? Nothing…my mom was trying to cook today and it…got away from her.” Ana said, looking down. “Oh, okay.” Mia said, not completely believing her. “So.” Daniel said, breaking the tension, “Anyone have any stories?” Ana snapped to attention “I do.” She said darkly. “The story of Hime and Hoya.” Jax imagined a flashlight lit under her face. “Long ago, there were two sisters. Hime and Hoya. They lived in Japan in a desolate bamboo forest. Hime constantly wore a blue flower in her hair, Hoya wore a red flower. One day, Hoya knocked over their grandmother’s urn. The urn shattered and spread ashes through the house. Their mother was furious, and threw Hoya out as food for the tigers and bats. Hime wept for her sister, and one day, she decided to see if Hoya was still alive. She ventured out into the forest in the dead of night. She tripped on something in the middle of the woods, when she looked down, she saw b0nes. Her sister’s red flower lay crushed in the middle of her right eye. She reached down and picked up the flower, crying now for her sister. Hoya appeared in front of her, her right eye was replaced by a red flower. Hoya floated down to her crying sister and wrapped her arms around her…and after that night, Hime was never seen again.” Ana finished. Mia trembled, Daniel stared blankly at Ana, unaffected. Jax tried not to start shaking. “So…what happened to Hime?” Mia squeaked. “Nobody knows. But their mother went to look for her, and found a crushed blue flower laying on the ground.” Ana said, shrugging. Mia squeaked fearfully; Daniel gave her some more rice. Mia immediately forgot about the story and gobbled down the rice. Jax froze, he had just remembered something. “Doesn’t the band teacher keep a red flower in a case in his room?” Jax asked, Daniel perked up “I think he does…” He said, smirking. “Well, Daniel’s in the band class, we could go with him and check it out.” Ana said, looking towards the cafeteria exit. They walked to the band room, Mia shaking all the while. Daniel opened the door. “Good morning Mr. Doodle.” Daniel greeted the teacher. Mr. Doodle nodded in return; they made their way to the back of the classroom. Jax checked his watch, 8:59. There, in the back closet, stood a small pedestal, a dome of glass with a solid red cover sat atop it. “The case…” Ana said, mesmerized. “There’s an inscription.” Mia said, “It’s some weird symbols” She seemed more curious than afraid now. “It’s Japanese.” Ana said, “I can read it.” Daniel crouched down to read the inscription. “Flower of de.” Daniel said darkly, “This must be it.” Ana stepped closer to the case, hypnotized by its red cover. “Ana don’t!” Jax yelled, grabbing her, “Jax!” Mia grabbed his arm, “Guys!” Daniel yelled, grabbing Mia. Ana removed the cover. The red flower lay inside, pieces missing from it’s delicate petals. A loud scream rang in their ears, they closed their eyes to the sound. Ana opened her eyes first, “WHAT THE HEC-” Daniel put his hand over her mouth. He removed his hand, “Hush. I think we’re in the sister's hut.” Daniel said, scared for the first time in his life. Well…maybe not the very first. “There’s a note on the door!” Mia piped up.
Read the first part in the instructions! The rest is down here but don't read it until your done with the instructions “Leave now. You walk towards your death.” Daniel read, “Well. These seem like jolly folk.” Ana said, opening the door. “Why would you open the door!?” Jax yelled, “We need to get out of here!” The others just stared at him. “Come on gu-” He screamed, his friend's eyes had been replaced by flowers. “Death is waiting for you.” Daniel read, “Well. These seem like jolly folk.” Ana said, opening the door. “Why would you open the door!?” Jax yelled, “We need to get out of here!” The others just stared at him. “Come on gu-” He screamed; his friend’s eyes had been replaced by flowers. He turned around and ran into the bamboo forest. He tripped and fell, he froze. He slowly looked back to see what he had tripped on. He screamed; he had tripped on a b0ne. The spirit of Hoya rose out of the ground. Jax wanted to scream, he wanted to run, he wanted to cry, but he couldn’t, he was frozen to the spot, his limbs wouldn’t move no matter how much he compelled them to. Hoya slowly floated towards him, Jax struggled against his invisible chains. All of the sudden, he went limp, he felt warm, and safe. He stopped struggling and looked up at Hoya. Her arms were extended in a seemingly friendly embrace. He gave in and let her wrap her arms around him. He closed his eyes, bracing himself to discover what happened to Hime. Nothing happened. He opened his eyes, he was somewhere else. The area around him was confusing, like it was split down the middle. Half were blue trees and flowers, the other half was red. He gasped. Two girls sat in the grove, one on each side. One wore blue and looked like she was crying. The other wore red and smiled brightly. Jax looked at the two girls, hesitated, and walked to the blue one. Jax was shaking, not sure whether he had made the right choice or not. The blue girl stopped crying and grabbed Jax. He braced himself for sharp teeth tearing into his skin, but nothing happened. The girl stopped crying and turned to the red girl. The red girl grinned mischievously. The blue girl looked back to Jax, she smiled and slightly opened her mouth, blue mist came from her mouth. Jax felt dizzy, he collapsed, the red girl was staring at him, her smile still bright and warm. Daniel and Ana searched the hut. Mia sat shaking in a corner. “Is Jax back yet?” Ana asked, “I don't think he's coming back.” Daniel said, sighing. “He just screamed and ran, that was so weird. Did he see something we didn't?” Ana said thoughtfully. “I don't know. But this is interesting, look.” Daniel said, handing her a note “Your friend is with us now. Go home.” Daniel read, “What?” He said, confused. “JAX!” Ana yelled, “Is he…!?” She said, anxiety clouding her senses. “I hope not.” Daniel said nervously, “I think we should leave.” “YES LET’S!” Mia yelled, rushing to the door. The forest outside was gone, it was a red vortex. “Uhh…I’ll go first, if I don't come back. Don't go through.” Daniel said, stepping through the vortex, he was back in the band room closet, he held his hand through the portal and gave a thumbs up. Ana and Mia walked through, Ana put the red cover back on the flower case. “How long have we been gone?” Mia asked, Daniel checked his watch. 9:00. “We were only gone for a minute.” Daniel said, confused. “Well..I guess we still have to get to class.” Ana said, “What about Ja-” Mia started, “I'm sure Jax will come back through the portal soon.” Ana said, trying to convince herself as well as Mia. They all headed to their classes, worried about their friend. Mr. Doodle noticed his room’s closet door was open. Huh. Weird. He locked the door and went on with his day, whistling happily. From that day forth, the closet had remained locked. The red flower remained undisturbed, and nobody has come in or out of the vortex since. If you made it this far, congratulations! Are you traumatized? Tell me in the comments! :D Btw @CherryTheThunderCar wrote this with me, thanks Cherry! :D
