It is a simplified and cost reduced variant of the M1928A1. The Thompson SMG was created by John T. Thompson in 1917 originally under the moniker of the "Annihilator", to sweep trenches and break the stalemate in WW1. However, the war ended before it could be shipped to Europe. It saw extensive use during the prohibition era and during the second World War by US & British troops.
