This poem is inspired by a scene from a powerful, emotional movie about WWII, specifically involving a young girl in a red coat. Throughout the film, she symbolizes innocence amid chaos and inhumanity but ultimately does not survive. I found this scene extremely powerful, and I tried to express as much of that emotion as possible into this poem—the pain, the despair, and above all, the innocence of the girl throughout the story.
