★★★ Cloud Multiplayer Skateboards ★★★ by @Inquisitive_Rabbit Here's a fun project I made combining two great tutorials I found: a 2D Car Physics Tutorial by @IguanaLover on Scratch and an Epic Cloud Multiplayer tutorial by @griffpatch on YouTube. I found @IguanaLover's tutorial when I was still on my old account. I was trying to code a skateboard physics engine for a game that was later cancelled. I was not having much success until I found @IguanaLover's car physics tutorial. I was easily able to adapt the code to fit a skateboard. The code you see here is modified to suit my purposes, but it's all built on things I learned from @IguanaLover - thanks so much for making such a great tutorial! I recently graduated to Scratcher status, and the first thing I did when I got it was follow @griffpatch's Cloud Multiplayer tutorial on YouTube - something I'd wanted to do since before I had this account. I finished the tutorial in one night. Now I needed a project to add it to. I'd been working on a scrolling platformer project since February of this year (the project began long before this account existed), with the intention of making multiplayer. Now I had the tools I needed to make that happen. However, I was having tons of trouble getting my moving platforms to synchronize correctly. At present all the other players look like they're floating in the air when they're standing on a moving platform. Hopefully I'll get that fixed soon, but for now I'm giving that project a rest. I decided instead to add multiplayer capability to my skateboard physics project. That's how this little bit of fun came about. ★★★ Controls ★★★ - You control the orange skateboard. - Arrow Keys or Mouse/Finger to move left/right. - Wait for someone else to join and play with you. Their skateboards will appear blue. ★★★ Why is no one here...? ★★★ If you go to your profile page, you can check whether you are a Scratcher or a New Scratcher. New Scratchers don't yet have access to cloud variables, so if you have New Scratcher status, there won't be any other players showing in your project. You can still play this project on TurboWarp's cloud server, which is not connected to Scratch and works for anyone. Here's the link to play this in TurboWarp: https://turbowarp.org/1069789888 (To become a Scratcher, you simply need to use Scratch for at least two weeks, share at least two projects, "love" and "favorite" other projects, and send helpful comments. Then you'll get a message inviting you to become a Scratcher.) If you do have Scratcher status but there are still no other players showing up, then you really are the only person using the project at that time. You can still open two tabs and play it with yourself, though. :) ★★★ Change Log ★★★ v0.1 - Initially shared on September 19, 2024. ★★★ Credits ★★★ - "2D Car Physics Tutorial" by on Scratch - five tutorials by on YouTube: "Epic Multiplayer Tutorial," "Cloud Game Tutorial," "Scratch Text Engine," "Awesome Pen Effects," and "Classic Platformer" - on Scratch for a technique using clones - I coded it by referencing the his "Getting Over It" project. - all other code by me, . ★★★ Shameful Confession ★★★ I have never used a skateboard. I have never touched a skateboard. I have never looked at a skateboard. I have nothing to do with skateboards. Maybe I wasn't qualified to make this project...?
