Alosa, a high school student at Marineville High, has always known that if she wants to get out of the small town she lives in, she needs to go to Stanford or Harvard for college. She might not know what she wants to do when she gets there, but she needs to go higher than most. The small town she lives in, no one goes to, nor really would anyone want to go there. The only way out is if you move and jobs don’t pay nearly enough to move somewhere else. So she needs to get a scholarship to an out of state college, that way she won’t ever have to step foot in that small town again. That shouldn’t be hard for her, since she has always had a 4.0 GPA, she is an athlete, and she is in Choir. She is getting her honors diploma this year, but the new student may surpass her… Kellyn, the new student, was forced to move with his parents to Marineville. He hated the town the moment they drove into it. He missed his friends and old school, in Massachusetts, already, and he just got to this run-down town. He knows that he wants to get back to his old town. He figured out, by word of mouth, that there was a scholarship up for grabs to an Ivy League College. The only thing in his way was a girl named Alosa, which he figured he would cross that bridge when he got there. Little did he know that destiny had a different idea…. --------------------------- “Can you pass me a pencil?” Kellyn asked, oblivious to the fact that the pretty girl next to him was Alosa. “Yeah, sure.” She said as she handed him one. She was busy taking notes with her other hand to pay attention. “Thanks,” He spoke, “You know, it’s impolite to not look at someone when they are speaking, right?” “Yeah, just don’t care. If you wanna talk, talk to me after class, while I am walking to the choir room.” “Tch, rude.” he muttered, then he processed what she said. “Wait, Choir? I am in choir!” “Okay, so?” “So, we can walk to the choir room together…?” “Yeah, sure, whatever, just be quiet”He did as he was told, bit interested in knowing more about this girl next to him. -------------------------------- He handed her the pencil back and walked with her to the choir room, he asked her questions, which she was very vague about answering. Which was very mysterious, but oddly attractive at the same time. He just couldn’t place why he feels like that. Lucky for him, he was placed next to her in the stands for choir. A few of the baritones were making fun of him for being an alto. Kellyn was just ignoring them, but Alosa wasn’t having it. “Hey!” She yelled at them before the teacher was completely ready to start class. They all looked at the person who yelled, all cocky, but the moment they saw Alosa fuming, they all became scared for their life. “You wanna repeat what you just said about him!?” pointing at Kellyn. They all shook their heads no, simultaneously. “Good!” Kellyn looked at her in admiration. “You know you didn’t have to do that, right?” Alosa looked at him. “Sorry, I just lose it when others say things about people that they shouldn’t even be thinking about.” “It’s okay, and why did the look at you like they have seen a ghost?” Alosa chuckled, “Well, that might be because I beat them all in arm wrestling contests and I am the team captain of the softball team.” “Remind me to never get on your bad side.” She smirked, “Hey, I have a softball game tonight here, you should come.” “What time?” “Five o’clock” “I’ll be there.” She smiled at what he said and paid attention to what the choir teacher was saying. -------------------------------- Kellyn got to the softball field to see Alosa’s team practice. The games started in ten minutes. He saw Alosa on the pitcher's mound, warming up. The announcer started to talk. Alosa, her team and the opposing team lined up. They started listing names on the teams. He heard one name and paid close attention. “Alosa Arano”. His world comes apart when the name of the girl he is competing with for the scholarship is his new friend that he somehow gained feelings for. ------------------------------ After the game, Alosa approached Kellyn with her softball bag on her shoulders. “Hey, you made it.” “Yeah, uh…Why didn’t you tell me you name is Alosa?” “Uh, because you didn’t ask. So, what is you name anyway?” “...Kellyn, the new kid….” Alosa stops dead in her tracks, “Y-...you kidding…right?” Kellyn shook his head. Alosa then muttered to herself, “How can I be so stupid?” He heard it, “Hey! You’re not stupid.” She looked at him, “I’m sorry, I gotta g-” “No” He interrupted her. “A stupid scholarship competition, should not get in the way of friendship. Who ever even said we had to compete for it anyway?” “...No one” “Exactly, why don’t we just help each other out and may the best man win.” She glared at him, then it clicked. “Woman! Or best woman win!” “Smart for fixing that statement” -------------------------------
Every day after that, they always studied together, even ended up being more than friends. Kellyn eventually joined the baseball team, so Alosa could teach him a few skills. Then the day came, graduation. They received their diplomas, both getting honors. When the scholarships and grants came around, as expected, they both received scholarships to multiple colleges and some grants as well. The big moment for them had arrived. --------------------------------- “We usually only give out one of these scholarships,” The superintendent started. “But two students deserved these the most, both being athletes, choir students, and having 4.0 GPAs, I present, fully paid, Stanford scholarships to…Alosa Arano and Kellyn Jackson!” The whole audience erupted in applause as Alosa and Kellyn walked hand in hand to receive their scholarships, knowing they will achieve anything, while they are by each other's sides. --------------------------THE END---------------------------- “Don’t Let Compotion Get in the Way of True friendship.” - Anonymous
