Previous: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1068923098 Sorry I'm late, i got busy. anyways this chapter wasn't my favorite to write. but it gives us a better look into Ember's and Fletcher's relationship. enjoy story: Ember thought about what Orpheus had said. Ember knew that he should say no. they might not be the heartless monsters media makes them out to be, but they still did bad things, they still killed. But they were humans as well and they still deserved medical treatment, right? Ember just wasn’t sure anymore. Half of him didn’t want to be part of their world. But the other half of him thought back to what Orpheus had said. “Ember, I lost a brother that day”. Prometheus once had another son, who died because they couldn’t get him the medical treatment. Orpheus and Atlas lost a brother, and Prometheus lost a son. And just to think if Ember hadn’t helped Orpheus, he would be grieving more than one dead son. Ember didn’t get back to the apartment until it was 9:00 pm. When he walked in the door he was greeted by a surprise, Fletcher was there but that wasn’t the whole surprise. The surprise was him being awfully cold to Ember. Fletcher didn’t even acknowledge Ember when he opened the door. “oh, I wasn’t expecting you to be here” Ember said. Fletcher just hummed. Ember put his stuff away and looked at Fletcher. “Um, sorry I got back late, I just was out doing stuff and didn’t realize the time” Ember said trying to think of a excuse. “Hope you enjoyed your night out then” Fletcher muttered. Ember didn’t know how to talk to him now, so he just went to bed. O O O Ember had found it hard to sleep that night, with Orpheus’s words still plaguing him. Ember didn’t realize he had fell asleep till he woke up the next morning. He had hoped Fletcher’s natural coldness was just because he was cranky or something last night. Ember was upset to find it spewing into the next day, and the one after that, and so forth. Fletcher was acting like Ember wasn’t even there, and when he did acknowledge him, it was always with a cold glare or a harsh voice. Ember didn’t know why Fletcher was acting this way to him, he couldn’t know, could he? No, how could he? Ember wished he could say he was upset when Fletcher left to do whatever it was, he was doing after his job, but honestly, he felt kind of relived, he didn’t like the icy glare that Fletcher kept giving him.
(story continued) Ember looked at the date, it was Wednesday. It was the Wednesday they were both off work, it was the Wednesday they were supposed to spend together. Ever since they had started living together, they set aside Wednesday as a sacred boys day. They would do anything they wanted as long as they could afford it. they never would forget their day, but today was different. If Fletcher didn’t think to have their regular day to spend together, he must be really mad at Ember. The only time they didn’t do their regular Wednesday was when one of them were sick. There was only one time that Fletcher was so mad that they didn’t do it. O O O “Why are you so stubborn”? Ember said throwing his hands up. “Why are you so secretive?” Fletcher responded. “What the heck are you talking about?”. “You know exactly what”, “no I don’t”. a moment of silence. “Why can’t you just tell me what your mad about” Ember asked softly. Fletcher sighed “why didn’t you tell me, you got fired”. Oh, that’s was what it was. “Because I didn’t want you to think any less of me” Ember sighed. “Why would I think less of you?”. Fletcher asked. “I don’t know” Ember confessed. “I just...”.” How about no more secrets” Fletcher said. O O O It was the only time they had really been mad at each other. Well until now that was. If they could resolve their problems then, why couldn’t they now? But Ember knew this was a bigger deal than any other little squabble they had before. Ember wasn’t sure what Fletcher’s deal was. But he decided to go ahead and set a budget, even though there wasn’t much of a point seeing as they weren’t going anywhere. But Ember thought if they didn’t use it this time, they could save it for the next time. The budget was determined by how much money they had made that week, and how much they would make the next. It was important to stick to it as money was a little tight. The only times they went out of budget was when it was a birthday. They first started doing birthdays about a year ago, when Fletcher surprised Ember for his birthday. O O O “Fletcher, where are we going”? Ember asked, trying to look at Fletcher through the blindfold around his eyes. “I told you it’s a surprise” Fletcher answered. “And we’re here” he said as he took the blind fold off Ember. It took Ember a few minutes to adjust to the lights, but when he did, he was not expecting what he saw. “La Fiesta? this place is out of the budget” Ember said looking at the restaurant. “On any regular day, yes. But I’ve been saving up” Fletcher said with a smirk. “no, Fletcher we can’t come here”. “Why not?”. “it’s too expensive for us”. Ember said. “Plus, most the workers are Mexican, and I can’t speak Spanish”. Fletcher raised an eyebrow. “I can speak Spanish” he said. Right Ember forgot Fletcher was part Mexican. “Come on you not allowed to say no” Fletcher said. As Ember followed him inside. O O O It was one of the best meals Ember had ever had. ‘Screw this’ Ember thought. ‘We aren’t going anywhere tonight, so why even set a budget’. Ember sat on the couch and sighed. Fletcher came back an hour later and paid no mind to Ember besides giving him a couple cold glares. Eventually Ember couldn’t take it any longer, he needed to go somewhere else, and he had an idea. Ember picked up his phone and pressed a few buttons before holding it to his ear and hearing the familiar ring that came with waiting for someone to pick up the phone. It didn’t take very long for them to answer the phone. “hello”? Wilbur asked from the other line. “Hi, um you’re not doing anything today, are you?” Ember asked. “No, not that I know of” Wilbur responded. “Ok, I was wondering if you wanted to hang out today, like go somewhere or something” Ember waited for a moment for Wilbur to respond. “Yeah, I’d love to. Why don’t I pick you up and take you to our house”. They said. “Is everyone ok with that?”. Ember asked, he didn’t want to just show up if Axel and Willow were busy. “Oh, yeah” Wilbur said. “Their dying to see you again”. Ember laughed a little. “Ok then I’ll send you the address” he said. “Great I’ll be there in a couple minutes”. “Ok see you soon”. “See you soon”. Wilbur said before they hung up the line. “Who was that?” Fletcher asked. “Oh, now you acknowledge me cause I’m talking to someone else” Ember snapped. Fletcher huffed. “If you must know, I was talking to a friend of mine. He’s going to come pick me up” Ember said. “whatever” was Fletcher’s only response. NOTES: just found out you cant paste italicized words from google docs to scratch :| I wonder why Fletcher's so mad? next chapter will pick up right where we left off. see you next Wednesday Next: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1090884220
