So, the YouTube channels Ayy Lmao and Iox have uploaded critique videos of Catching Up’s pilot episode. The thing is, these two were way too harsh. The thing is, it’s the pilot episode. It’s just setting things up, so of course it’s not gonna have anything crazy, and besides, it’s a series that’s grounded in reality and takes a lot of inspiration from Mark’s childhood, so yeah, no duh the ending of the episode doesn’t have some big reveal with like some type of overarching villain or something. It’s not that type of series. These two are misunderstanding what the series is actually about.
Ayy Lmao is the lesser of the two evils, because he has respect for Mark’s courage to do something like this, but the way Iox’s video is titled leads me to believe that they were much more brutal. It’s fine if you don’t like the series, but critiquing it when you don’t even understand what the point of it is is just unfair. Yes, Hazbin Hotel’s pilot did well, but that’s because it has a more fictional story and it released during the rise of the indie animation boom. I’m hoping these two give the series the chance it deserves after the amount of work that went into it, and I’m hoping everyone else does as well. Thanks for coming to my TedTalk
