Questions by Cartooney! — 1: What story will you be using to answer these questions? How would you quickly describe the storyline? Morningstar! Due to a recent unusual spike in strange magic activity, and the disappearance of three high school students, Cia and her friends take it upon themselves to get to the bottom of this, and find out what’s going on. 2: What inspired your story? Mostly other webcomics, but my biggest inspiration was Castoff by TheStarFishFace! Miitopia was also the cause for the existence of my silly little guys. 3: Does it take place on Earth or in a made up land? In what time? A made up place based on Earth, called Almyst. It’s set in modern day times, but many people have magic! You could literally go out into your front yard to find your neighbor, the Centaur, mowing his lawn. 4: What’s a favorite place in your story and the events that happen there? Probably the town in Nolliorune, Issavyre, and the Castle of the Sun. Lots of silly moments ensue in Issavyre, and the castle is where the climax takes place. 5: Who is your protagonist? What is their mission? Our main protagonist is Cia Sims. It was the idea of her friends to try and solve this mystery, and she’s taken it upon herself to make sure nothing falls apart. It was a much heavier burden than she was expecting. 6: Who is the most underrated character in your story and why? Candy! I should have written in more screen time for her, so we can see more of her chill big sister type personality. And all the existential crisies I love giving her <3 7: What two characters have the most interesting relationship (good or bad)? I’ll name two dynamics here. First is Avery and Tristen. They’re my favorites and ever since the beginning of their creations they always had some sort of chemistry with each other. They balance each other out as well. Avery is some kind of strong warrior, but struggles with dealing with her emotional struggles. On the other hand, Tristen regularly falls up stairs but he understands emotional issues. The other is Midnight and Windsor. They’ve always had this interesting dynamic with each other. Midnight is the soft spoken younger brother who’s surprisingly mature for his age, meanwhile Windsor is the more loud and eccentric, who’s not quite as mature as he should be despite being older. 8: What are the conflicts of the story? Do you have villains? Windsor is the main antagonist. He uses hex magic to have some control over magic supporters, believing he’s helping improve the use of magic in some way. He means well but his moral compass was completely shattered. 9: Which character is the most misunderstood? I’m not really sure. 10: Is there a character the most like you (or even based off you)? What qualities do you share? I think I share a lot with Cia and Tristen. I share traits with them such as optimism, some anxiety, as well as an interest in music. Though I think all of my characters have a little bit of myself in them in some way. 11: Is there an animal sidekick? No, but we do have the resident Catboy. 12: Who or what acts as the comedic relief? Tbh it’s most likely Eyevee, Tristen, or Cia, depending on the scene and scenario. Eyevee’s a menace, Tristen’s just silly and we love him for that, and Cia’s got some sass that can make for some great moments 13: What is the underlying message or moral of the story? Something something family, something something friendship. 14: What are some symbols or hidden meanings you have placed? Chapter 14 is titled Eclipse. Since Midnight is much like the moon, and Windsor is much like the Sun (it’s quite literally his whole deal. He loves the sun.) you could say Midnight putting a stop to Windsor’s plan could be some sort of symbol of a solar eclipse. 15: What genre would you consider your story? Fantasy! 16: What type of media is your story (book, animation, movie, play, etc)? Webcomic! 17: What’s a song that matches an event or character in your story? I have a whole playlist! Here are some songs for some of the characters: Cia-Fine, Great (Modern Baseball) Windsor-Lose Your Head (Vane) Tristen-100 Bad Days (AJR) (Literally any AJR song works for him) Erick-Carnival Happy (Kairiki Bear) Midnight-Oh No! (Marina) Avery-Mine (Taylor Swift) Winter-The Tornado (Owl City) Eyevee-Konton Boogie (jon-YAKITORY) This list goes on and on. 18: Is it a cast of people, animals, or both? Humans and other humanoids. (Technically Human/animal hybrids.) 19: What’s something funny or ridiculous that happens? Here’s some dialogue I’ve written: “I wanna talk about you and your sister.” “The one who probably wants to disown me?” “Avery’s not going to disown you! …I don’t think.” “I don’t think I’ve had a single coherent thought in six hours.” “I ship it.” “WHAT.” “I’m kidding! I’m kidding! I just said that because we’re on a boat.”
20: What’s the biggest obstacle your protagonist must overcome? Herself, in a way. She’s so focused on holding everything together, and then she doesn’t know what to do when everything starts falling apart, including herself. 21: Does anyone die? How does it change things? I’ve considered having someone die :)) Just to inflict some emotional turmoil on their friends :)) 22: Which character would you choose to be your friend? Who would you not get along with? I’d probably be best friends with Tristen irl. And idk who I wouldn’t get along with. Probably one of the side characters, Penni. 23: If any, what weapons are used? Swords, magic, other fantasy things Eyevee can and will fight someone with her bare hands and her bare hands alone. 24: How does your story differ now from when you first started making it? Lots of shifts in personalities and concept. It used to take place in a more fantasy setting with Midnight as the antagonist and Eyevee being less of a menace. Kio used to be somewhat shy and awkward instead of confident. Elliot used to be a student and the same school the protagonists went to before he became Issavyre’s town guide. 25: What’s something interesting about your story that wasn’t asked about here? I’ve had several ideas about how my characters met each other. Mainly Cia and her friends Cia and Kio grew up as next door neighbors to each other. They’ve been best friends since Kindergarten. Kio met Solstice in 3rd grade. She had just moved in to their town and he was one of the first people she met. They started going out in middle school. Kio tripped trying to introduce himself to her. Smooth going, buddy. Tristen and Avery met in 6th grade. They ran into each other in the halls, found out they shared a class, and immediately became friends. Avery noticed Tristen had a decent amount of scars and bandages on him. She learned that he’s very accident prone. He claimed he was surprised he hadn’t broken a bone yet, knock on wood. That ended up being the year he broke his arm. anyway that’s enough of my rambles :))
