pay no attention to the fact that it is late. "Backpack" #inktober2024
hello! i decided to do inktober this year, and this entry is number 1! the prompt for today was "backpack". when i think of backpacks, i think of school and homework. this got me thinking a lot about grades and i thought of what i could do with that. i got inspiration from a genie and a lamp, if you cant tell. lets be honest, getting bad grades is rough, especially when you are trying your absolute hardest. i learned this when i was in grade 7. for the first semester, i got horrible grades. i kept thinking, "im trying my hardest, why am i getting bad grades?" well, turns out, trying hard wasn't my problem (big surprise /s). it was motivation and procrastination. i still struggle with this today, but it has died down a lot. and for one single reason, i'm HONEST with myself. for example, say you have a test tomorrow, but you didn't study. you have two options. option A. "well, the test is tomorrow, but i absolutely hate studying. hmmm.... i think i have time, so ill just watch tiktok until tonight and then study then!" or option B. "well, the test is tomorrow, but i absolutely hate studying. hmmm.... if i wait until tonight to do it ill be to tired and the information wont stick with me. i guess ill just do it now." option B sounds smarter, huh? sometimes its not that easy though, so here are some tips on how to get straight A's (or decent grades in general). 1. some teachers don't give actual homework, its only homework if you don't get the assignment done in class. so, instead of staring at the board for the entire period, try and get your work as fast as possible! even if you don't understand it, talk to your friends in that class. if you don't have any, then go to the teacher. it takes guts, but it pays off in the long run!! 2. ask your parents or an adult you trust if your having trouble! usually i do this when i'm scared of the teacher (which is quite often the case lol) or when i want to get it done asap. 3. when doing homework, do your least favorite class / the hardest homework first. its hard, but it will leave you with the easier stuff at the end. 4. try not to be absent a ton! going to school is boring, but you will ALWAYS miss important information when you're gone. if you are absent, ask your friends or the teacher what you did that day. 5. research studying habits and tips! there's lots of useful memorizing hacks out there, so don't hesitate! 6. if you get a bad grade on a test, ask your teacher if you can retake it! i know its scary, but would you rather just take the F? 7. make it clear to your teacher that you are striving for good grades. if you make it seem like you don't care about your grades, the less likely your teacher is going to let you retake tests and give you extra credit. 8. if you are a big procrastinator, (i feel ya', buddy) reward yourself after you do a long session of homework! give yourself something to look forward to once you're done! (ex. baking a treat, hanging out with your friends, going outside, watching videos, anything that you really enjoy doing!) this is gonna sound brutal, but don't listen to people that tell you, "oh well, grades don't really matter anyway.". they DO matter. even though they are just a reflection of how you're doing academically, they DO matter. however, its also important to keep everything in perspective. never tell yourself that it has to be "perfect". no one is perfect. we're human. we make mistakes. don't get mad that you got an A-. because we've all been there, and people will understand. we're only an eighth into the school year! we've got this!! and other people got your back!! you can do this!!
