Vera woke, hours, days, weeks, months, years, who knew, later, not her, and she slowly sat up, looking around, there was a mirror on the wall in front of the bed. Her hair was a mess, but her wings had grown a lot over night, they were almost the size of her arms if she spread them out fully. Her, talons, had disappeared, but when she thought of them, they appeared, not very big, but if she made a fist, she could use it as a weapon. ‘Jeez, i’m turning into some super cross between wolverine and that one guy with the white wings’ she thought to herself. She stood up, stretching, and went to the bathroom to brush her hair and teeth, bathe, and of course, go to the bathroom. After this, she walked out, feeling cleaner than she has in quite a while, and she walked out into the hall. Zerain was doing as much, but with the usual built-in spring in his step. He had dressed in a green plaid shirt and a gray hoodie, with pale blue jeans that had a slight flare at the end. Vera looked down, and noticed that she was still in her blood-stained clothes from last night. She sighed, rolled her eyes, and went back into the room. Vera looked around for clothes, finding nothing, she shrugged and walked back out, looked at one of the other hotel rooms and knocked down the door. She laughed, almost evilly, ALMOST, evilly. She walked in the room, lucky her, she wouldn’t have to commit murder today, there was no one in it. She looked around for clothes to steal, and found…’Oh god no, I am NOT wearing this, there HAS to be something else here’ she thought and threw the yellow dress that would reveal WAY too much aside. She continued searching, finding literally nothing else…. “Well ship” she said to herself aloud and looked at the yellow dress, then at her bloody clothes, luckily not bloody jacket, “Ugh, fine” she mumbled to herself snatching up the dress. After getting into the dress, she realized that most of the T.H.E.M. people they had seen were men. And men were easily distracted by... she grabbed a pair of boots and put on her tight-fitting leather jacket, just to get that full ‘come hither’ look. She felt ridiculous. Anyhow, she came out of the room, blushing madly and trying not to let her underwear show. She was looking angrily at the dress “Stupid, fecking dress” she mumbled trying to keep it down. Zerain walked out of his room, and froze, staring at her “..........Nice” he said. She glared at him “can we just leave?!” She asked sort of angry, more blush appearing on her face. He laughed “Lead the way” he said with a sly grin. She narrowed her eye’s “Only because i don’t trust you to not forget where we're going” She growled and turned, quickly, causing the dress to bounce upwards, giving zerain quite a view. He followed her, not really watching where he was going, as he was bit…. distracted. “I swear, if you’re staring, I am going to put my talons to use. On your face.” “Mmhm.” “You aren’t listening, are you.” “Mmhm.” Vera sighed, before pushing open the door to a thrift shop. There was absolutely NO way that she would walk around like this all day. That “dress” was more like a shirt with a flare at the bottom. After she had found a suitable pair of soft jeans that clung to her legs (for minimum noisiness) and paid for it, mainly because she didn’t want to attract too much attention, she walked out with a slightly disappointed Zerain following behind. Vera sighed and turned to Zerain, who still looked disappointed, “Alright, where to now???” She asked. Zerain shrugged “I usually just chill out in the city until they find me….or go to those ghost town things… or go clubbing….Or go to those ghost town things…..Or go clubbing” he said, repeating himself. “....You repeated yourself” Vera pointed out. Zerain stared at her confused “no i didn’t….”. Vera sighed “Right, Short term memory, i forgot”, Zerain looked shocked “I have short term memory?!?!” He said surprised. Vera face palmed and Zerain laughed “I’m just joking with you” he said still laughing slightly. Vera hissed. He was getting better at lying, which could both prove a huge help and a huge irritance. Vera and Zerain hopped in ‘their’ car, and continued driving. Couldn’t spend too much time in one place. Vera stared ahead at the road, almost falling asleep from boredom, when a sign caught her attention. She grinned, and subconsciously started planning. ‘We can disappear in there, there are bound to be animals outside of there, seeing as no hunting is allowed on the grounds, it’s a place I can let my wings and stuff mature... bingo. We’re going camping.’ Vera grinned, and whispered her idea to Zerain. He looked shocked at first, but then grinned as he realized that she was right. The sign had read: “Grand canyon, 50 miles.” Vera looked as she began seeing….starbucks’s. They were getting close to a tourist site and she knew it. She looked at Zerain, who had fallen asleep, and was somehow, even with a seat belt on, curled up like a cat. She pushed on his arm a litt
le to wake him up, and he awoke, yawning and stretching like a cat, before looking at her “we there???” He asked. She rolled her eye’s “Of course, it was only an hour drive….” He looked surprised “oh, right….” Vera face palmed “I don’t understand how you fell asleep either… but whatever” she said as they approached the grand canyon sign, her wings twitched, wanting to spread out from the jacked she had to wear. They quickly signed in, still in the car, and entered the large, spacious park. They sat in silence for a quick second before getting out, grabbing the few items that they had, and headed down a steep trail-like thing, the morning light casting eerie shadows over everything. Vera looked down, and regretted it. Not even Zerain’s legs would be able to handle a fall like that, and it was far down enough she didn’t trust her wings to hold her. She focused on staying on the thin, looping trail, and not trying her wings. She gulped and continued walking, behind Zerain, just in case she fell, he could catch her. Around sunset, they reached the bottom and Vera sighed relieved. Zerain looked at her “Were you scared???” He asked kind of mockingly. “Shut it” she said and looked around for a camping space concealed from any wandering travelers. Zerain did as well, stopped half way through and looked at her “what are we doing???” He asked “Camping spot” she muttered “right right” he said and continued looking around. They hadn’t packed a tent, there was really no need, so they lay in their respective sleeping bags and stared up at the sky until they fell asleep. Zerain awoke to the sound. He questioned it for a second, before rolling over and noticing Vera using a rock ledge to try to fly. Rally, it was just her hanging on to the mini-cliff with her hands and flapping her wings, which were now about as tall as she was, until she succeeded in flying up the cliff. He watched her struggle a little while, and when she finally succeeded in getting up the cliff, he applauded her. “Hey, what do you know? You can actually use those things!” Vera rolled her eyes, still grinning at her success. “Oh shut up you piece of ship.” Zerain laughed, and stood up, stretching. Vera flew over to him, wobbling slightly, but making, and landing, slightly hard in front of him, losing her balance slightly and stumbling, falling forward. Zerain caught her “woh, careful there, you're flying like Twilight after she gets her wings” he said with a slight grin. Vera snorted and smiled slightly, putting her hands on her hips “oh? Does that mean you are admitting you watch the show???” she said, her smile turning to a grin. “n-NO!” he said “My sister used to wa-” “Yeah yeah, i’ve heard the excuse before” she said interrupting him mid sentence. He snorted and went back over to the sleeping bags “whatever” Vera grinned, and crouching down, leapt into the air again. She could feel an updraft somewhere above her, but she couldn’t quite catch it by just jumping. As she landed, she crouched, and jumped up once again, this time using her wings to propel her. She notably jumped a lot higher, but that didn’t matter, she wanted to fly. She flapped upwards once again, and felt herself straining against gravity. She flapped again, and this time carried enough momentum to actually fly a bit higher. She let herself fall back to the ground, and at the last second, she spread her wings so as not to break her legs. She shook her fluffy wings, and put her jacket back on over them again. They were very noticable this way, but they didn’t have time to go back up and get a new jacket, or maybe a skirt. Vera sighed, thinking of one last alternative. She didn’t want to, that was a good jacket... she sighed, and shook her head. She would have to, eventually. “Hey, Zerain? Can you pass me a knife?” She shook her head, remembering something. “Wait, nevermind, I’ve got talon things.” She summoned her talons, and shrugged off her jacket. Looking at the inside of it, her wings had worn down the leather, having already ripped through the back of her shirt, so it was rather easy to tell where her wing-slots should go. She poked her sharp talons into the leather, the tough material cutting like butter at her claws. She ripped the cloth from her wings down to the bottom of her jacket, and decided to try it on. She put her arms back into her jacket, and felt her wings slide perfectly through the slits she had made. She grabbed one of her belts, noticing that her jacket was really floppy now, and secured her jacket to her shirt. They were ready to go, although it would most likely be a dangerous journey off-trail. They were ready for it. Zerain was staring at Vera, who was looking around at the canyon, judging where the best place to hid would be. Eventually, out of her periph, she noticed Zerain staring “What?!” she asked glaring at him. “N-nothing” He said quickly looking away. “You’re a terrible liar” Vera said, folding her arms. {continued in project}
