Chapter 11-Memories and Keeping Them It was November, and Rosalia was out near the Black Lake reading while watching students poke the tentacles of the Giant Squid. Rosalia let out a sigh of happiness. She had just realized how beautiful Hogwarts was and how precious memories were. "How can I keep all my memories?" she thought to herself. She once had a diary which she stuck to and even brought to Hogwarts. However, she realized that she couldn't write every day and that she couldn't keep all her memories in one book. She shrugged. That was the thing about memories; you can't keep them all, so you must cherish them while they last. At last, she thought, "I wonder if there's a certain spell that keeps memories..." "Of course not," she thought again, "There's only one that erases them, not keep them," She looked at her watch, she was going to be late for History of Magic. She sprang to History of Magic class where she was having class with the Gryffindors. She didn't know any Gryffindors in her year, so, in this class she sat quietly. There, she decided to write to her adoptive parents. She wrote: "Dear Mum and Dad, Hogwarts is such a beauty! I know I've said that, but now, I mean it very much! "The charms and potions are much more intriguing than regular vocabulary or chemicals! I'm about to start History of Magic class! I've been learning about Emeric the Evil, the 1637 Werewolf Code of Conduct and—right, you don't know about magical stuff. "But I do terribly miss you guys, and I hope you're enjoying yourselves at home! Bye! Love, Josie Johnson" She nearly wrote "Rosalia Estelle" instead of "Josie Johnson" because she got so used to writing that instead of her muggle name. There, the ghost of Professor Binns walked, or rather, floated in. "Now, class," he started in his slow and boring voice, "Let us review our last topic about Elfric the Eager," Rosalia heard the whole class groan. "I don't understand why people hate that subject so much," she later on told Ariana. "Maybe because everything about History of Magic is boring," replied Ariana, "Professor Binns, the textbook, the class, and the whole point of the subject," Rosalia shrugged in reply. Then, she remembered about the Research Class. "Oh, also," she told her, "I have something called 'Research Class' that was made just for me," "Oh, really?" Rosalia started telling her all about the Research Class and how Professor Flitwick had told her about the night outings to Professor Dumbledore's office. When she paused to take a breath, Ariana was wide-eyed with surprise. "That is-" she started, seemingly unable to express her strong feeling. Rosalia nodded. After talking and finishing her day, she went to bed. She saw Luna reading a magazine called "The Quibbler" Rosalia thought it was time to tell her about her Research Class. "Umm...Luna?" "Yes, Jo-Rosalia?" "I have something called Research Class," she confessed. "Research what?" So, Rosalia started telling Luna about her Research Class as well. Because she had shared quite a big of a secret, she felt closer to her friends. "That's intriguing!" replied Luna, "It's odd how life can a huge turn suddenly, am I right?" "Yes! Just a week ago, I was called 'Josie', but now, I'm Rosalia!" "It's also strange how memories are sometimes a bad thing and sometimes a good thing," continued Rosalia, "But in the end, we need all our memories to make us who we are," "That is true," replied Luna, "Did you read about that quote?" "No, I got inspired by real life occasions," "That's nice," Luna replied, "Did you hear about the Moon frogs?" "The what?" replied Rosalia, surprised at the sudden change of topic. "Moon frogs," answered Luna, "It is said to bring bad luck," "Glad it doesn't exist then," mumbled Rosalia to herself. After that, Luna got up to check the state of the moon to see if there were any moon frogs. Then, a girl approached her. "Hello!" the girl said, "I'm Everleigh Chang!" "Why did this girl suddenly come up to me?" thought Rosalia. "Oh, I just wanted to make a new friend," replied the girl. "Wait, did I say that out loud?" thought again Rosalia. "You didn't," the girl replied back, "I'm a Legilimens!" "So, you can read minds?" asked Rosalia. "Yes!" Everleigh Chang replied, "And you're Rosalia Estelle?" Rosalia nodded. "Want to be friends?" Everleigh asked. "This friendship won't be bad," thought Rosalia. "I'll take that as a 'yes' then!" Now, Rosalia had two friends to talk to in the dorms and she knew that life was going to go uphill from there on. "Memories," Rosalia thought when she was in bed, "It's more magical than actual magic!" *** The next morning, Rosalia was on the Ravenclaw table in the Great Hall having her porridge as breakfast next to Luna and Everleigh. After talking for a while with Everleigh the night before, she realized that they had quite a lot in common like their love for reading. (Rest in the notes and credits)
Just then, a barn owl landed gracefully on the table next to Rosalia. "Must be from Mum and Dad!" she squealed. She gently took the envelope from its claws and ripped it open. It read: "Dear Josie, We're so sorry, dear! Your aunt called and said that she accidentally double-booked a holiday! And now, she offered to give us two tickets to Rome, so you won't be able to go back home for Christmas! I hope you enjoy Hogwarts over there and we're once again so sorry! Love, Mum and Dad" Rosalia put the letter back in the envelope. She didn't mind staying at Hogwarts because some of her friends stayed there, too. After breakfast, she had a lot of free time because it was a Saturday. So, she decided to sit once again near the Black Lake to read. After breakfast, she sat near her spot and opened her "Little Women" book because she missed Muggle literature. She read in peace with the wind blowing on her hair and the calm sound of the waters brushing on her ear. She felt most at peace and breathed in gracefully. "If I lost all my memories and I could only keep one memory, I'd choose this," she said. ✧✦✧ Author's note: Hey, guys! I think this chapter is really good, (not bragging, it's just my own opinion) because it reminds us that memories are very important and how we should try our best to keep them. This chapter is quite inspired by my realization how precious memories are! Credits: Thanks to J.K. Rowling for the wonderful series! Here's the cast: Josie Johnson (@Josie-Johnson_Fanfic) Ariana Malfoy (@Normal_4Real) Everleigh Chang (@martinaclaire) Alright, that's about it! See you next part!
