Psilopterus is a member of the subfamily Psilopterinae, which is part of the family Phorusrhacidae. It was 70–80 centimeters 2.3–2.6 ft tall and weighed 5 kilograms 11 lb. It was a carnivore that used its sharp and curved claws to strike prey. It hunted down small animals. It also could have run and semi-flown but only for very short distances and in a very clumsy manner.
