The sequel to my featured project, "Scratch 3 on a Pentium III". While testing Adobe AIR on old hardware, I was surprised to find that version 29 runs on processors as old as the original Pentium! I immediately put this knowledge to good use. My Flying Cat remix runs significantly slower than on the Pentium III, at around 7 fps... but hey, it's still playable! ...Somewhat.
System specs, in case you missed them: MSI MS-5169 VER:2.1 AMD K6-2/350 Riva TNT2 M64 384 MiB PC100 120 GB IDE HDD Windows XP SP3 Here's how to run Scratch 2.0 on a vintage computer: 1. Install Adobe AIR 29 – the last release that works on processors without SSE2. 2. Download the Scratch 2 offline editor. 3. If the installer complains that the file is damaged, it's lying. Extract the "Scratch 2" directory using 7-Zip. 4. Head over to the Scratch 2 folder and delete the following file: META-INF\AIR\extensions\edu.mit.Scratch.ScratchDevice\META-INF\ANE\Windows-x86\ScratchDeviceANE.dll It's a library that uses SSE2 instructions and will therefore make Scratch 2 crash on older CPUs. 5. Run the editor!
