(click to see the progress!) i’m working on another piece for this, but I’m sharing the project now because idk if i have the motivation to finish it :P -Bio- (Tiger) Blossom She/her LeafWing (raised in the rainforest on Pyrrhia) -Story time!- It’s easy to overlook strange things when you’ve lived with them your whole life. Blossom had known she was a little different all of her life, but she had no reason to question it. No examples of others like her. True, she couldn’t change the color of her scales like the other RainWings, but that condition wasn’t unheard of. Her wings were different, too, and she couldn’t spit venom, but both of those traits could also be explained by the medics. A rare birth condition, maybe. Or perhaps her venom would come in later in life. Even with all of these explanations, Blossom felt out of place. The RainWings were kind to her, but she knew she wasn’t like them. But she didn’t look like any of the other tribes! She had wondered for a long time if she was a hybrid, but even then, what would she be a hybrid OF? She didn’t have the glow scales of a SeaWing, the starry scales of a NightWing, or the barbed tail of a SandWing. Little did she know, Blossom’s questions would soon be answered. Now that Blossom was getting older- she turned five next moon- she was allowed some independence. She could fly around the rainforest on her own, exploring its waterfalls and discovering new plants. She had a talent for discovering new plants, it was as if they called to her, whispered their secrets into her ears. The RainWings called it luck. She called it magic. As the sun reached its peak in the sky, the sweltering heat of the rainforest became overwhelming even to Blossom. Expertly swooping between the trees, she followed the scent of water to cool off. There! A pond emerged from the undergrowth, shaded by tall trees. Its glimmering water beckoned her towards it. Blossom had never explored this area of the rainforest before, and she was delighted by the pond’s cool water. Splashing around, she washed all of the leaves and twigs off her green scales. Once she finished, she floated peacefully, listening to the sounds of the rainforest. A branch snapped suddenly, and Blossom was on full alert. She quietly got out of the water, listening for sounds of another creature. The plants whispered to her that a dragon was near. Creeping low to the ground, Blossom tracked where it was. She couldn’t see it yet, but she caught glimpses of green scales through the bushes. -A SeaWing?- she wondered. She peeked through the bushes and saw the dragon- a female- turned away. Blossom took a deep breath, then pounced. The dragon yelped, squirming underneath Blossom’s claws. “Who are you, and what are you doing in the rainforest?” Blossom growled. The strange dragon struggled, and Blossom noticed she didn’t have the webbed talons of a SeaWing or its glowing scales. What could she be? “Wait! Don’t hurt me, please!” The dragon yelped, twisting out of Blossom’s grasp. “I just came for shelter, I swear!” Blossom forced herself to relax, the other dragon didn’t seem like much of a threat. “How did you sneak up on me like that?” The dragon asked. “I usually notice EVERYTHING!” “I have my ways,” Blossom said simply. “What kind of dragon are you, anyways? You’re not a SeaWing, but you definitely don’t look like a RainWing. A hybrid, maybe?” The dragon laughed. “I’m a LeafWing, silly! Just like you!” “A LeafWing?” Blossom asked. She had never heard of that species before. “Yes, from the other continent! My name’s Spring, by the way,” The dragon added. “I’ve flown quite a long way to get here!” “I’m Blossom,” she said, mulling over the words ‘other continent’. “Blossom?” Spring repeated. “You don’t seem like much of a ‘blossom’. More like a tiger, with the way you snuck up on me!” “A tiger?” Blossom asked. “They’re a big cat that lives in Pantala’s jungles,” Spring explained. “They have stripes and sneak up on their prey…” she said, sneaking up to Blossom, “before pouncing!” She demonstrated this by making an exaggerated leap onto Blossom’s tail, pinning it down. Blossom gave a surprised laugh and batted Spring away with her wing. “Alright, alright, I get what you mean. I can definitely see the resemblance now.” Spring’s stomach rumbled loudly. “I would stay longer, but I have to catch food and rest.” Spring said ruefully. “I haven’t eaten since yesterday.” Blossom felt hesitant to leave Spring, she wanted to spend more time with this strange LeafWing. “I’ll help you catch food!” She declared. Later, after they had caught their fill, Blossom was drawn to a cave by the whispers of a tree’s roots. “Nice find!” Spring said, examining the shelter. It was protected from the drizzle that was now descending from the canopy, and the entrance was covered by thick, dense leaves. “I couldn’t even tell there was a cave here!” “Thanks,” Blossom said, working up the courage to ask a question. “Also… I’ve been wondering… are there more of you? More LeafWings?” Spring looked at her quizzically. “You’ve never heard of Pantala? The rainforest must be so isolated!” Blossom wondered if the RainWings hadn’t told her about her heritage on purpose. “I… I think I want to see Pantala.” Blossom said, thinking about all she had discovered today. “I have so much left to learn about myself, about my tribe. Will you take me there?” Spring nodded. “It’s a long flight. Are you sure you’re up for it?” “Yes,” Blossom said confidently. “With you leading the way, I’ll make it there for sure.” “Then we’ll leave at dawn.” the end! sorry it’s so long D:
