✎Welcome... I decided to make this project for the writers out there who are looking for advice to improve their skills, beginners who are trying to build an understanding of writing, or just anyone who wants to polish up their knowledge. Lets begin... ✎When writing from the perspective of a new character, something I often do is practice being in their mindset through roleplaying. ✎Something really useful to do for two characters who are friends/enemies is to make a venn diagram of their personalities. ✎This may seem weird, but it's actually really helpful to make the facial expressions of the characters you are writing about. Tip: This works well for drawing, too. ✎If your parents/guardians allow you to, building the setting of your writing piece in Minecraft or some other building game really helps ✎When listening to music, try and find songs that describe parts of your writing and/or characters personalities or backstories. It's magical how many new ideas you get. ✎Pretend to interview your characters to get to know them better and imagine what they would say. ✎Play Mad Libs but pretend one of your characters is giving the words and try to think what words they would choose. ✎If your hand gets sore from handwriting or typing, pinch between your thumb and pointer finger and move your fingers around while pinching. Magic healing remedy. ✎Take a personality test pretending to be one of your characters and pick the answers they would choose. ✎If you're stuck on names for characters, open a magazine, close your eyes, and point to a random word. Open your eyes, read the word, and change it until you have a name you like. ✎Journal. I journal, and in my opinion, it has made me a WAY better writer. Plus, at the end you have an autobiography. ✎Put a small aspect of you in each of your characters. For example, if you are afraid of heights, have a character that's afraid of heights. This will help you understand them better, and therefore write about them better. ✎Record an audiobook as you write. Saying it out loud helps you hear how people will read it, and you can fix problems you might not notice while reading inside your head. ✎For every strength you give a character, give them at least one weakness so that you don't have crazily overpowered and unrealistic characters. ✎Base scenes off your real life experiences. I often base scenes in my stories (particularly funny ones) off things that happen to me in real life. ✎Play music while you write. Listening to music can actually boost your creativity and productivity. ✎Write in the evening when you can. According to a Google search, that's when you're most creative. ✎Learn at least one new word every day. The more words you know, the more descriptive your writing can be. I try and learn at least one new word every day. ✎Record your dreams. You never know when you might want to make a story out of them. ✎Keep a notebook next to your bed in case you get a great idea in the middle of the night that you don't want to forget. ✎Save your old writing projects, even if you don't think you'll come back to them. Someday you may change your mind. ✎Try and post stuff on Scratch. There's a great community that would love to give you feedback on how to improve your work. Also, I'm willing to read over stuff and give feedback if you want to send me a comment with the link. :) ✎Even if you don't like to draw, it's always a good idea to draw your characters so you have a reference for character descriptions. ✎ALWAYS plan. I've rushed into stories without planning before, and let me tell you... it isn't pretty. I know planning is boring, but the result is worth it, trust me. ✎Most of all, just WRITE! You won't get good without practice! :) I hope you found these tips helpful!! Byee!
