Scientific name: Armentum vermis Alias: Locustworms Niche: Colonial grazer Evolved from: Hastalingua pestilentia Description: Locustworms are colonial whipologs (wait do these even count as whipologs anymore). Each colony of Locustworms has one queen which produces many eggs, which hatch into workers. These workers leave the nest, which is usually a shallow tunnel, and search for plants around them. When these workers find a plant, if it is too large for them to consume they will return to the nest for help. When they return with help from more workers, they will all begin to cut the plant into pieces with their blade-like upper jaws. After it is in many small pieces, the workers will bring them back to the nest for consumption. If the plant is consumed, however, the worker will store the food in a special second stomach, which doesn't digest food. After it is stored, the worker will return to the nest and then regurgitate the contents of it's social stomach so other members of the colony can eat. All workers are sterile females. During a certain time of year the queen will send out new queens and male drones, which look exactly like workers. These new Locustworms will disperse, find mates, and start new colonies. Drones will immediately die after mating. Locustworms do very well in places with many plants, but can survive in sparse environments too. Their colonies, at most, have 1 queen and around 30 workers.
