The moonlight flitted through the trees as a boy ran through them, as fast as he could. Tomorrow was the day he would receive his letter, the one that would prove if he was a true wizard or a disgrace to the family. The odds were slim of him becoming a squib. He couldn't be one and he wasn't one. It couldn't be possible. He had already produced extraordinary maic from a young age. Making things float out of grasps and fall from shelves. At the sight of these occurrences, his parents would applaud non-stop. It was proof that they're son was a wizard, just like them. The boy stood in front of two houses: 11 and 13. His messy black hair reflecting the moonlight. The two houses opened up, making the earth rumble and revealing a third house in the middle: house 12. As the boy stepped inside, he took off his cap and faced the Black family tree. His hand circling the name: Derek Black. "Mum, Derek snuck out again!" his youngest brother announced, standing beside Derek. His young face gleeful. "Shut up, Reg" Derek hissed, covering his mouth with his hand, "Or I'll punch the hell out of you" "He's threatening me!" Regulus screeched, his voice muffled from Derek's hand "Shut up, both of you" came a sharp voice behind Derek's back. He swirled around to see their mother; Walburga Black, in her night robes and arms crossed. Derek released Regulus, his face flushed with embarrassment. "S-sory mum, I'll go to bed now" Derek stammered, heading up the stairs to his room. but Walaburga stopped him, her rat-like face serious. "no you are not" she snapped, holding his arm, "It's almost daylight and the owls will be coming soon with your letter" Regulus sniggered in the corner, Walburga glared at him to make him stop. "Regulus, go to bed!" she ordered, her voice bossy. Regulus obayed, heading up the stairs to his room. Derek stood there, unsure about what to do. "I'm going to tell Kreacher to make breakfast" he muttered, heading towards their house elve's room, but then an owl perched on the window seal, carrying a letter. A letter addressed to Derek Black.
