The Tuskegee Airmen were a group of primarily African American military pilots and airmen who were assigned with bomber-escort jobs as they fought in World War II. They formed the 332nd Expeditionary Operations Group and the 477th Bombardment Group of the United States Army Air Forces. In this picture, we see Brigadier General Charles Edward McGee in his North American P-51C Mustang, nicknamed "Kitten" after his wife, firing at an enemy Focke-Wulf Fw 190 that was damaging several Boeing B-17 Bombers above Czechoslovakia. Circa: August 23, 1944.
