A collab DTAE between @I_Am_Anonymeows and @_xX-Takowasa-Xx_! Anonymeows is entering for Jack-O-Lantern(June) and Takowasa is entering for Caution Zombie(Morana). We'll each be drawing the designs we enter for. Any notes made with (+) in front of it are Anonymeows talking, and (~) is Takowasa; if there's no symbol, assume the message is from both of us! ^^ The backstory was mainly written by Anonymeows and the playlist was mostly Takowasa, but we both did a bit of each! ~+~+~+~+~+LORE+~+~+~+~+~ There was once a little pumpkin on a farm. It watched the people as it grew. Oh, how it longed to be like them. People walked and talked, spoke and saw. People lived and loved, but a simple pumpkin didn't. The little pumpkin didn't see a good reason to be a pumpkin and not a person. Until the pestilence struck. People were sick and dying left and right. The pumpkin wanted to join the people, but it was no longer to be a human. The pumpkin wanted to help them. It was people, after all, who had helped her grow so big and strong. A good deed should be returned, don't you think? It was the middle of the night when the pumpkin's will came true. When the people woke up the next morning, they found a strange person wandering the streets. With her dark skin, pale orange hair, and bright, glowing eyes, she looked unlike them. But she was immune to the plague, and willing to help, so she became the apprentice of a plague doctor. "What shall I call you?" he asked. "June." ~+~+~+~+~ The doctor June worked with was special. Unlike most, he was somehow able to cure every patient he saw after some time. Consequently, the two of them were very busy, and in high demand. The doctor had an older sister, and the doctor and her were very close. Their parents had passed away, and they were both single and living together. The doctor would earn money and his sister would cook and take care of the house. June was invited to live with them. She was hesitant to accept at first because she didn't know the doctor's sister very well, but June ended up liking Morana. Morana was quiet and mostly kept to herself, but was always willing to share a kind word and a hot meal. They had a decent life for a while, until June and the doctor made a dreadful mistake. They didn't know who had done it, but one of them accidentally brought the plague into the house. Morana fell ill, and the doctor couldn't cure her, no matter what he tried. Finally, as she was on the brink of death, he turned to magic. A dark and ancient spell, that switched the user's life force with another's, but even that didn't seem to work. Or was the spell fake? Did magic even exist? Or was the doctor so desperate, he was willing to believe anything? There were two burials that day. Brother and sister, laid to rest next to each other, beside their parents. June felt heartbroken. She would never again talk to the people who had been kindest to her, who had let her into their home, given her a fire to warm her on the coldest nights, fed her and clothed her. She didn't deserve their kindness and they didn't deserve to die. Did anyone who fell to the pestilence deserve it? She wanted to give up, to quit. But that's not what Morana and the doctor would've wanted, is it? They would've wanted her to keep fighting the plague, save as many people as possible, and help others, just as they helped her. They had left June everything they owned in their will, so she had shelter, money, and healing supplies. June became a plague nurse, and even worked for free when people couldn't afford her services. When the plague finally ended, she was remembered as 'Lady Lantern', the strange woman who had fought the pestilence alongside 'The Doctor'. Stories were told of how the two never failed to treat a patient. For some reason, the stories always left out the one patient they couldn't heal. The one who mattered most to them... Morana. The people mostly left June alone, except to bring offerings; this happened more often in the winter, when people would bring her firewood and blankets, since she was sensitive to the chill. If anyone got sick, June would go and cure them, but she never ventured to town for anything else. June spent most of her time sitting near her friend's graves. When it was warm, days could pass and she wouldn't even move. One summer night, however, she sensed a disturbance in the ground. There were strange noises, and as the earth shifted, a bandaged arm shot out of Morana's grave, followed by her head and shoulders. June was overjoyed. Morana was alive after all! The spell had worked! Sure, she was missing an arm and her skin was strangely greenish, but she was moving and talking! Well, not really talking. Morana was mostly coughing, and when she tried to speak, no sound came out. "It's alright, you haven't used your voice in a long time. Come home, I'll cook something up for you, and you can speak when you're ready," June had said, and they did. A week or so had passed since [+]
