I pull my backpack onto my shoulders when I walk out the door. School is starting soon, and since I walk to school I should get going. Walking down my driveway, I look both ways and sprint across the road safely. Once I am on the sidewalk I Remember the gift I had received yesterday. I bring my hand out and reach into my backpack pocket. I grab the zip lock bag from my pocket and swiftly pull out my flip phone. After opening the bag, I quickly realized the gift Alex gave me was a phone charm. I smile slightly, noticing the translucent beads with an opaque pink and yellow flower charm. My name is Primrose, but a lot of people either call me Prim for short or Rose as a nickname. This influenced me when I was younger to like flowers, so now the majority of my valuables have one of them somewhere. In my hair, I have a light pink flower clip that remains tucked next to my bangs. After opening my phone, I attach the charm to the hole on the side. I frown a bit, noticing the pink gloss chipping off my phone's surface. I’ll get a new one soon. I think, rubbing my thumb over the rough patch. I quickly sent Alex a text. thanks :) My attention is quickly averted from my device when suddenly, I can hear Alex squeaking in the distance, holding her yellow flip phone to the sky. “SAY CHEESE!!!” Alex exclaimed, and a photo was taken before I could look up. I giggle at this, snatching the phone away from Alex with my spare hand, and rustling to delete it. Noticing this, she quickly snatches it back. “You look cool, Prim!” She exclaims, now ruffling my long, brown hair. I have always been a bit self-conscious. The large scar on my eye makes me a subject of conversation. Alex had always teased me for it but it always helps. I can tell the silence is making the conversation awkward. But my vision is now blurring, as my vision focuses on the concrete. “It looks like someone poured hot coffee on your face!” She would say. “In a good way.” She added after noting my upset reaction. “Mhm.” I used to answer, understanding the teasing but still taking the words to heart at first. “I can SEE that you are thinking too hard,” Alex complains. “It's hurting my brain. It has to be hurting yours too.” Discarding what she said, I continue to think. Alex had always been pretty. All the boys at school bringing her sweet notes in class. I always cringed as I watched her quickly toss them into the trash, not even bothering to unseal the envelope. Unlike me, she had light blonde hair, accompanied by some chocolate and strawberry streaks swimming through the light vanilla waves. “ Your hair reminds me of Ice cream.” I blurt, as Alex quickly scrunches her face. A wheeze-laugh quickly continues the dialogue. We laughed as we walked to school, talking about my new phone charm, and why we both need new phones. After, we slowly approach the brown brick building. We quickly put our phones away, and enter through the gray double doors. The chattering of many students and the slamming of lockers could be heard as we strolled through the hallways. At last, Alex and I found our classes. Entering the classroom, we both walk to our table in the back. I pull out my chair and quickly sit down, becoming unsettled by the uncomfortable feeling of eyes on me. It's the second to last day of school, and you can tell everybody has given up on trying in school. The kids chattering echoes through the room. We will be going into 8th grade soon, which is a shocking fact to Alex. Alex, sitting a few seats across the room from me, passes me a note. A cute blue star is used at the front, and I giggle a bit. I open the note, the paper crinkling between my hands. Suddenly, I can hear footsteps rapidly approaching my desk. I hide the note quickly, making sure not to draw attention to myself. \ "What are you doing, Primrose?” My teacher asks me, picking up the note I had attempted to hide in my notebook. I wince at the sound of my full name and the sound of ripping paper. My teacher walks away as she throws the note in the trash. I lower my eyebrows at this action, parting my mouth to show my teeth. “Primrose, it is almost the end of school. Keep yourself together.” I nod, looking at Alex as she gives an apologetic look across the room. School went quickly, the teachers now ending their attempts to keep the class in control. Alex and I’s last periods are different, so when beginning to walk home together, we wait for each other at the gate. It seems I wasn't quick enough today, as when I arrived at the school entrance, Alex was leaning on the pillar clicking buttons on her phone. I quickly jog towards them, snatching their phone and flipping it shut. Alex jumps a little at the sudden action, slipping from her ‘cool kid’ position. I begin giggling a bit, snorting from the reaction. unfortunately, the mood is interrupted by someone suddenly approaching us. It's a guy. He's tall, with black hair curled upwards towards the ends.
