Based on this prompt: ___________________________________________ Sophia closed her textbook, yawning loudly. The sound of barking dogs and car wheels squealing faded into the background as she clicked a button on her phone to turn on some music. She grabbed a pan from the bottom cupboard, singing quietly along with the song. God forbid she should sing too loudly, so as not to disturb her mom and friends. She took a spoon from an old drawer, rattling all the silverware. Sophia balanced several ingredients in her hands, humming louder. Her bracelets jangled noisily, resulting in her mom coming and giving her a dirty look. Sophia ignored it, turning on the oven. The intoxicating smell of blueberry muffins filled the kitchen, the scent drifting out the window. I sat down in a chair, breathing in the aroma, then it changed. Sophia sniffed again, detecting the slightest hint of smoke. She looked at the oven, and saw, with horror, that bright orange flames were sprouting from the pastries. Sophia yelped with surprise, causing her mother to come over and glare at her. “Sophia, didn’t I tell you to be-” She broke off, staring at the oven. “Sophia,” she started, “tell me that isn’t what I think it is.” “It isn’t what you think it is?” Sophia said, grinning weakly. A burst of flame made her jump. She looked over, and screamed loudly. The flames now towered over her head, sizzling and popping. She grabbed her phone off the counter, which was still playing music, and dialed 911. After a brief silence, a woman answered, sounding bored. Spohia quickly explained the situation, all the while backing away from the fire, and hung up. Within minutes a bright red fire truck pulled up to their house, and several men ran inside. They quickly doused the flames with water. Sophia shivered uncontrollably, as a majority of water had fallen over her. She thanked the fire fighters, and they left. She watched them drive away through the window, biting her lip. She was going to be in so much trouble.
