Space or Click During 1988’s Operation Carpet Guardian, for the first time several combat photographers were integrated into various units involved. The public of the UNOP had never seen these firsthand images of a war before. These three are a few of the more popular images to come out of the war. The first, from a photographer integrated within the 2nd Airborne Division, shows several paratroopers under fire from Rug forces. They hide behind a 3rd Armored Division MBAU-3 RISE (P) while calling in air support. The second, from a photographer integrated within the 11th Infantry Division, shows a light anti-tank team destroying a Rug T-62 that they'd been hunting for some amount of time, West of a nearby "Save-a-Bunch" that had recently been involved in an intense skirmish. The third, from another 11th Infantry Division photographer, shows a group of mixed 11th ID/2nd Airborne moving, escorted by a 3rd Armored MBAU-3. 2nd Airborne Division: Two battalions jumped into eastern Carpboard State behind Rug lines in the early hours of the morning on May 2nd. All were seen with a relatively light load, and were mainly sustained by Army units that moved in after their jump. 11th Infantry Division: Stationed out of Fort Featherdown, were rapidly deployed and shipped out with improper camouflage. Wore body armor unlike the 2nd AB.
