Explanation: I was doing an online science class which required a thermometer. Since i did not own an electric thermometer my mom told me to use an old one, with contained mercury. Mercury is a highly toxic metal that can kill you if it goes into your bloodstream. It gets into your bloodstream via contact with it, so touching it is highly dangerous. Anyways, everything was going normally, right up until i was supposed to put on my gloves after measuring the water with my thermometer. As i was putting on my gloves, the thermometer rolled off the table and shattered on the ground. Now, this thermometer is old and made of glass. so you can guess what happened after it landed on the ground. It shattered, leaving FINE PIECES OF GLASS ALL OVER MY FLOOR and LIQUID MERCURY. At the time of this, my parents were out, running some errands, so I WAS ALL ALONE (dun dun DUNNNN) Luckily for me, the mercury balled up and i was able to keep it in a designated spot until my parents arrived and helped me clean it up.
