Howdy, fellow swcers! It’s good to see you all for another great session, and now it’s time to start my 1k intro! The official starting time is 11:23 utc, let’s see how far we get in our very limited time! The question remains to be answered, will it be my typing speed or my lack of ideas that prevents me from finishing yet another year of the 1k intros? To start off with, my name is Wordy/Ava! Many would know me in the past as Wordy, based off of my very clever username, but through the past months I’ve switched to something more conventional: Ava! Whatever you call me is fine, but I respond more quickly to Ava even though it’s not my real name. This year I will be participating in NaNoWriMo, and it will be my second year doing so! Last year I participated and reached 50k, although I wouldn’t say I reached 50k well. The novel that I wrote ended up being an absolute trainwreck, probably because it was just a bunch of my favorite books mashed into one obviously worst story. This year I’m going based off a much better story idea, which I got last weekend and started developing yesterday. Aside from my poor time management in my planning of this novel, this one seems to have much better planning, and I’m very excited to write it! I won’t share it yet, but if you’re on NaNo you’ve already seen the working title, so I’ll share it with scratch as well: Awake. That’s all that you get about it for now! Moving on to more about me, I've been doing SWC for a few years now, although trying to remember exactly which session would take way more time than I currently have, so we will not be doing that. I usually sign up for the summer session but don’t participate, my November activity is usually limited to mostly things surrounding my novel, but in March sessions you will probably see me hanging around the main cabin a lot! I know a lot of campers and leaders, not nearly as much as others but I would like to say that I’m well acquainted with the community, or at least a somewhat familiar face. This is the first session in awhile (that I’m actually participating in) that is not led by Mouse, so this should be fun! I’ve also been writing for years, which started out as the starts of stories in various journals I’ve purchased over the years. Okay, now we’re going to move away from the SWC aspect and writing aspect. More about me would be that I run in cross country. This is a sport that I started last year in the fall, and I only did it for my friends that year, so I wasn’t the greatest at it. I went into summer running with the same attitude, but by the middle of the season after meeting so many great runners
and older teammates, I realized that I loved the sport. I started putting in more effort and got a lot faster than I started the season as, although not fast enough for JV yet. My goal is to someday make our school’s highly competitive varsity team, but that’s a goal for maybe a few years out, as my focus right now is just improving on my speed. As follows, in the Spring I will also participate in track! My school is very good in both sports, but I’m hoping that if I train through the winter, I can claim a spot on the team’s JV track team. The dream is varsity, but I’m not sure whether I can run that consistently in the winter to even build up that kind of speed. In track I like to run both long and short distances, although I’m predicting now that I’ll be put on the long distance team this year, which should be refreshing after the long 5k courses that cross country has. Within school I’ve also recently discovered that our school has a large group speech team, which I’ve joined and will be competing in two events. The first is a short video, which technically anyone can do with no experience, but the second is group improv! I’m mostly excited for the group improv, so if anyone has any tips for me they would be greatly appreciated, because I’ve never done theater nor improv, so I would say I’m currently at a bit of a disadvantage in the long run here. No worries, I’m hopefully very funny and I get along with others well, so I’m not anticipating any problems, although I am super nervous about this, because I do not want to be the reason my team loses anything! This year so far in school has been fun for me, and I would say I’m doing good in most of my classes. Other than my core classes, I get to take Speech and Communication this semester, which has turned out to be fun, even if I’m barely managing with a passing grade right now. I originally took the class because it was a graduation requirement, but since I have it with friends and the class is fun, the whole thing is turning out to be a good experience, and I may even take a more advanced class in later years. For all of my classes other than advisory, I would say that I have good teachers! A little bit about my family is that I have a sister, brother, stepsister, stepbrother, mom and stepdad, which means I always get extra credit when talking about them in Spanish! Jokes aside, I would say that most of my relationships with my family are positive. And now we are coming to the end of this ramble! I’m not sure if I have first day motivation, or if I’m just that good, but this was easy! Looking forward to this session with you all!
