This was taken from my original book I'm working on, But I have no clue what title I should add. If you have any suggestions, please tell me in the comments. All other characters not mentioned aren't important to the plot. You might wanna read about the characters to get the story. ✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦✦ . ⁺ About the characters: Minerva- She's my protagonist, I put a lot of thought into her and her personality. She reminds me of myself, in some ways. She loves the stars, and is OBSESSED with Greek mythology. She's 14, her birthday is 9/25. She's really shy, and was originally going to be a side character, but then I had the amazing idea of turning the book into a love story. Orion- He's another character; Minerva's love interest. He was Minerva's first friend at her new school, but he left her over the summer to go to a camp for boys. He has a VERY shady dad, and his brother was Minerva's sister's love. His mother died when he was 4, and he's been avoiding his dad as much as possible. (I'm not gonna spoil the ending because it's very sad and heartbreaking). Nicole- Not a very thought-out character; she's Orion's girlfriend he picked up over the summer. She was also the typical blonde bully/cheerleader (I'm also blonde, so no offense to the others!) who didn't like Minerva because she was ''too smart for a girl to be'' , WHICH IS REALLY MESSED UP IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT!! Anyways, she's not actually in love with Orion, but she was trying to make Minerva jealous (which worked, by the way). ✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦✦ . ⁺ Anyways, I might just put the whole story on Scratch, but this is just a portion of Chapter 12. This is from Minerva's point of view. Enjoy!!! ✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦✦ . ⁺
''I'm independent, from now on,'' I'd promised myself on my birthday candles, even if I was too old anyways. I needed that candle to show proof, it seemed. Orion left; left me. For summer camp. He'd met five friends, got a phone from his dad, and managed to leave me feeling... Alone. I'd never felt that before. I'd got through some changes over the summer as well, more distinct features. Or was it just me? I closed my eyes, trying to brush off the feelings. For some reason, I found myself in Aunt Glory's apple orchard. The sun was at the ground's edge; the moon finally showing. A cold gust of wind brushed against my body. I shivered, now noticing I had not coat on. Not wanting to go back to the house, for a fear of seeing him again, I moved closer to the woods ahead. When I reached the wooden plank, used as a bridge for the ditch below, I heard fast-paced footsteps behind me. Knowing almost immediately who it was, I decided to ignore him, or just for the time he could handle it. ''Minerva! Wait!'' He said, in that same voice he used when I woke up and pushed him away. I bit my lip, recounting the time it would take before I burst into tears. ''Go...away,'' I managed, gasping for the words. I moved my arms down to my sides, then walked onto the bridge. ''Why are you mad at me? I did nothing...'' Orion started to say, then instantly stopped when I glared at him. ''You know exactly what you did,'' I whispered, my tears forming translucent clouds in my eyes. ''Right?!'' His shoulders fell; a faint smile appeared. ''You've... changed. You're not the shy, introvert I met a year ago.'' I stared at him, his smile growing into a grin. ''I can tell you have too,'' I mumbled. Orion rustled his hair- the same blonde hair he'd dreamed of having- and bit his tongue. ''I guess you're right,'' He came closer, and I instinctively pushed him away. ''Is that why you mentioned it?'' I said, more breath then talk. His brows crossed evenly. ''Mentioned what?'' I looked away, blinked and confessed. ''Mom's been showing me the pictures you took at camp. You hooked up with Nicole, from what I know,'' I said, my voice swaying from betrayal. ''How could you?'' I hissed. He opened his mouth, possibly to say something, to give a lame excuse like he always did, but then shut it again. ''She's-'' ''Smarter, more fashionable, hotter?'' I asked in a mocking tone. ''Yeah, she seems like a perfect match for you.'' His confused look started up again, and he blurted out something that made me regret my decision. ''Are you... jealous?'' ''NO!'' I said, right after he asked. I winced; weak answer. He seemed to think so, too. ''Why are we doing this...'' He asked, his patience thinning. My temper rose. ''You were fine without that no-good diva! I just wish-'' ''Wish what?!'' ''-that you'd notice me for once!'' Silence. I looked down at my shoes. Trying to be so perfect. Me. Minerva Johnson. Something I was good at. Or maybe just pretending to be.
