Chapter 2 Jacqueline I should have known she would not hug me and be the big sister I wanted her so badly to be. I had met Charlotte twice in my whole life, and she had never been the big sister I wanted .Why would she be now? I put my arms down. "Like I said, Jacqueline, what do you want?" Charlotte said, looking like she hated me. She barely knew me. "Look," I said, walking back to my chair and sitting down. "Mom was taken, and the only way I could get her back was with blood. I tried to pay them, but they said I was missing a drop, and I guessed they meant you, because I gave them way more than a drop". I pulled up my sleeve, showing her where I had cut to get the blood. "Why should I care about her? She left me and my dad for you and your pirate of a father," she said, her words hid fire, as if it were my fault our mother abandoned her. I mean, it was my dad’s fault if it was anyone’s. "Please, Charlotte, I need to get her back. She's the only family I have left. I can't lose her," I said, my voice breaking. The only reason I wasn’t crying was that I couldn’t be weak around my men; a weak captain meant a weak crew. "No," Charlotte said. "You people should be hanged for your crimes, not saved." She turned to leave. "Hank," I said, I was hoping this wouldn’t happen. Hank moved to block the door. "I'm sorry, Charlotte, but I can't let you leave. You may have this new family, but I’m not so lucky, so I’m sorry, but you’re staying here." I stood and walked over to her. The boy, who I guessed was Lucas, got between me and Charlotte. "Look, if she doesn't want to, you can't stop us from leaving," he said, as if his brother wasn’t knocked out on Hank's shoulder. I smiled. "Sorry, you’re not the one in control here. Even if you make it out of this room , I control every man on this ship . I don’t need you or your brother; I only need Charlotte. You two are disposable, so I would watch your words," I said, smiling. I turned to go back to my desk when I heard him start to raise his arm to punch me. Just as his fist would have hit my head, I moved to the side, grabbed his arm, and flipped him onto his back. He hit the floor with a crunch. I held onto his arm and put my boot on his chest. He wheezed, the air knocked out of his lungs. "Like I said, kid, you’re not the one in control here," I said, twisting his arm. He bit his lip to stop from screaming. "You’re fine walk it off ," I said, letting go of his arm and taking my foot off his chest. I motioned for my men to take him to the room we had set up for them. I sat down at my desk, watching my men pick the boy up and usher Charlotte out of my office. This was going to be a fun trip.
