STORY: in 1967, a legend was born. the heavy mastodons! these engines had a 4-12-2 wheelbase- something not done since Union Pacific's 9000 class! these guys also had a bit of GN s-2 in em. they carried heavy freight and occasional passengers. these guys EASILY overtook the F-9's in strength and speed. it wasn't uncommon to see a M-12 and F-9 double-head with a mile long freight consist. The M-12s top speed was about 129 mph, but were regulated to 102 for freight and 119 for passenger service. only 1 survives today. meant to post this earlier but no biggie
