My notes from the church that I go to! In this project I am going to basically give you an overview of the sermon, and if you have any questions pls ask!! This honestly might turn into an every-Sunday thing guys ngl :0 Instructions: tap to see the next page of notes! tap on the drawings to get explanations for why I drew them (I always draw little doodles showing little stories or big points that the pastor makes)! They are always very interesting/funny so be sure to click on them!! read the pages while also referring to the description for each page below! Oh and each color of highlighter means something different! PINK: I found this interesting YELLOW: not as interesting/I’ve heard this before but still very important BLUE: I need to work on applying this to my life - - - - - PAGE 1 So the pastor (John Schmidt he’s awesome) started talking about values and how we would be literally nowhere without them. And then he read through the text and something that really stuck out at me was “our values come from God’s word” and I realized that is what every single Christian should be thinking about. Our values should not really be ours, but we should always be thinking about what GOD would want us to value in our lives, and luckily there is a very simple way to know exactly what he wants us to value. Reading the Bible! Then he began talking about how WE (the people) are the church! And what he means by that is that by going to church and interacting with the people there and bringing people there, WE ARE the church! The building is not the church, it is merely the place where the church meets every week. The life application is that good values help you to make wise decisions, which I thought was very interesting :0 ig that gives us another good reason to have good values! Next he talked about how we should work in unity. Now think, (imagine you are part of the church lol) if we are the church, shouldn’t that give us every reason to work in unity? If we did not work or interact together at all, the BUILDING would then be the church, and we would be of no importance! We must work in unison if we want to carry out God’s command to travel the world and make disciples!! Speaking of which, one main thing we should value in our lives is OUTWARD FOCUS which means focus on showing people the love of God and helping them become followers of Christ. We should value that! The Bible says so!! The verses below show us where it says that! — PAGE 2 Similar to that is we should value helping people in need! What kind of Christians would we be if we saw someone desperately in need of something that we have and we have a clear opportunity to give it to them, but instead of helping we just walked right past them? Bad ones! The scripture tells of a parable that Jesus told about this exact thing, read it and it’ll be clear what God wants us to do. Next he said we should welcome newcomers, not just to our church but to Christianity! In Acts 15:19 (skipping over Hebrews bc it basically just says the same thing) it says not to make it difficult for people to come to Christ. When you first become a Christian, a lot of people will try to tell you what you should eat, how you should look, how you should talk and start shoving a Bible in your face, but the Bible tells us that that will make people not even WANT to be a Christian! If we want to encourage people to believe in Jesus, we should not give them tons of tasks and put lots of pressure on them when they are just starting out. Let them work their way up to that, after all relationships are all about working to get closer every day! Another thing he talked about was valuing equipping ordinary people to share the Gospel. Pastors and missionaries are not angels in disguise or some sort of supernatural beings sent by God to preach. They are just ordinary people who feel a call to ministry! Even if WE don’t feel called to be a pastor or missionary, we should work on helping OTHERS become pastors or missionaries. Next, prayer! Prayer can fix ANYTHING, so we should pray about EVERYTHING!! I especially like Philippians 4:6-7 and what it says about prayer! We were literally MADE to worship the Lord and develop a relationship with Him, so we should pray like we were. — PAGE 3 This might be a bit of a difficult pill to swallow for a lot of people, but we should also pray that GOD’S will be done, NOT OURS! Even Jesus prayed this when he knew he was about to be crucified: “Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” Luke 22:42 God is not some all powerful genie who, if we pray to Him, He will give us whatever we want, no matter how badly we may want that to be the case. God’s plan is WAAAY better than yours, you have no idea what the best for you is! In fact, He wants what’s best for us more than we do!! So shouldn’t we WANT to leave our fate in his hands? We should pray about this! | V
We should also learn to pray privately, but also with others. Matthew 6:5-8 explains this better than I ever could! Praying alone is so powerful. Wouldn’t you want to occasionally talk in private with someone we have a really strong relationship with? We need to do the same with God! But in the same way, we should also learn to pray with others. In fact, this is so important, that after Jesus was crucified his disciples Peter and John were arrested for preaching about Jesus, and as soon as they were freed, they told everybody what had happened and, you’re never gonna believe this, THEY ALL STARTED PRAYING! Their prayers were so powerful, that the BUILDING LITERALLY SHOOK and they were all immediately filled with the Holy Spirit!! That’s how powerful good prayer is, and why we should learn to pray like that! But we should not pray carelessly and babble on and on while we are praying, because it is useless! God knows exactly what we need before we even ask, so simply tell him what you need and be done, don’t babble on and on! I actually don’t really know what he meant for this life application, so it’s up to you to decide! “You know the saying, ‘Four months between the planting and harvest.’ But I say, wake up and look around. The fields are already ripe for harvest.” John 4:35 I love this verse because it holds so much truth. This is basically a metaphor meaning we go about in our daily lives minding our own business and waiting infinitely for a chance to share the gospel. But what Jesus is saying is that there are already sooo many opportunities right in front of your eyes! We need to wake up and see that the fields are ready for harvest. This sermon was written and preached by John Schmidt, one of my favorite pastors ever. His church is Centerpoint Fellowship Church in Alabama, see centeringlives.com for more info! What’s that purple box you ask? First of all, no it’s not removable haha second, it’s covering up his email because yeah I am not about to post my pastors email on Scratch for the entire world to see without his permission. But anyways yeah, that was my church’s sermon today! Again pls ask of you have any questions, and if you don’t know Jesus yet, PLEAAASE tell me and I can give you all the information you need to start a relationship with Him!
