Strategic Expanse devlog #10 11/11/2024 click/press any key to change screenshots Last devlog: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1030418476/ The days of the terrifying Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson SE Huckleberry are over. (Fair enough, @ImpIsDum) BEHOLD! A better Huckleberry! Poor choice of facial expression aside, I'm much happier with this design. The shading turned out really well (especially on the hat), opting not to give him realistic hands is much better, and his secondary idle animation (tossing an electro orb up and down a few times) is something I would totally do in real life. I guess he's acting in character. Huckleberry isn't a fully fleshed out character yet (he has 1.5 out of 5 skills done lol) but he has a lot of potential. Part of the reason why I haven't done a whole lot with him yet is that I need to work on animating electricity for his skills, which I've discovered is pretty difficult. (To be honest I don't know what else I would've expected but still.) I think I'll make a skill or two more, then switch to implementing someone else. With multiple characters, it'll be easier to get a feel for balancing and synergy. I've also implemented area targeting into skills, making area of effect (AOE) attacks possible. The system allows for skills that either select one tile/enemy out of an area or affect all enemies. I'm happy with the versatility of this updated engine because it allows for a lot of possibilities! Finally, I've added in an effects system! It's good for skills that use projectiles, but it'll be applicable to just about anything. I've said this before but I'm putting in more effort into the visuals of this game than I have in other projects, a way I'm pushing myself out of my comfort zone. Hopefully this devlog didn't disappoint, given the long wait from the last one! Making devlogs has helped me have little goals to work towards. Motivational checkpoints, if you will. Sadly I don't have much free time still, but I'm doing what I can. Just taking it a bit at a time. But so far so good. Until next devlog! - Huckleberry Music: by me, made in Musescore 4 SFX from wherever got them
