Exploring the evergreens - Chapter one River lived in a small town in a three-story house. She loved it there, away from the big cities. Right then she sat in her bed. River's room was a good size. River's bed was on the far side from the door, on next to the door was her desk. Her floor was covered in green and brown fluffy carpets, with leaf lights hanging from her ceiling and fake ivy on her mirror. River scrolled on YouTube, knowing that she wasn't supposed to be on her phone. She sighed, turning it off and curling up under the blankets. For River, being a therian was hard. She didn't have anyone to connect with, no therian friends. She felt alone, most of the time, even when she wasn't. The next morning, River groaned and rolled out of bed. She sat up with a sigh, slipping into her moss-green t-shirt and white sweatpants, topping it off with a striped sweatshirt, and Pendant necklace. She brushed her hair, then stumbled down the stairs for breakfast. She wolfed down her toast then hurried upstairs, brushed her teeth, and dragged herself back down. She grabbed her backpack and hat, slipped into her UGGs, and hurried outside into the snow. As she walked down to the corner, River pulled her hat down onto her head. She paused at the corner, waiting for her friend, Fae, to show up. She heard boots crunching in the snow, and turned to see Fae hurrying to meet her. Fae wasn't a therian, but she knew about River being one. River was glad to have a friend that was so supportive of her. "Let's go!" Fae cheered. River chuckled, falling into step beside her as they started up the sidewalk. "How can anyone ever be so excited about school, of all things?" She asked. Fae shrugged. "Because school means education." She replied. River covered her ears. "Oh, now you're making it worse." She joked. Fae gave her a grin. They reached the school, and pushed past the crowd to reach their homeroom. River sat down in her seat next to Amber, and Fae took her seat next to her. Amber looked up at them. "Hey, guys! Hope you're not too frozen." She commented. Fae shook her head. "Just the right amount frozen." She told her. Amber barked a laugh. "Great." She said, pulling on her headphones and opening her computer. After a little bit, the bell rang, and River left her friends to go to her least favorite class of all time; Math.
