February, 11 ‘Dear, Inka I forgot to tell you that since your now deaf and can’t speak properly, I have arranged an extra defense against the dark arts lesson with Professor Lupin to help you learn non-verbal magic and how to identify spells without hearing them. Your first lesson will be this coming Saturday after dinner. Come alone and don’t tell anybody. Sincerely, Dumbledore’ Great, another extra class, I thought bitterly. Folding the letter into my pocket as I headed towards the library for my first BSL lesson. I’m already deaf and now I have to face my free time being replaced by my lessons. Except the good news was that I was seeing professor Lupin. It may seem weird to hear someone saying they have a crush on their teacher, but it wasn’t his looks that made him stand out from the rest of my teachers, it was his kindness and the way he taught that caught my eye. Even before anyone knew I was deaf he was still kind to me; giving me tips I would never hear about how I could do better on tests because it was clear I was failing. I opened the large doors to the library; the smell of parchment and books filled my nose. I haven’t been here for a while now, not since Snape found out that I was deaf. I found my sisters: Jaqueline, Isabella, and Iris (My eldest sister, Hermione didn’t come because “I can learn with books”) sitting at a table with an unfamiliar girl with long blonde hair. Earrings that looked like radishes dangled from her ears, her wand was stuck over her right ear, her necklace (which was made from butterbeer corks) swayed as she moved. This cannot be my instructor; this just couldn’t be. She looked well… too out of place. Slowly, I went to sit in between Iris and Bella. Hoping that this weird girl was just another one of their friends. Jackie was the first to notice me, she smiled then wrote: Hi, Inka. This is our tutor; Luna Lovegood. Great, just great. ______________ May, 14 Me and Theo had already been together for a couple of months. At this point, we were used to the stares from our peers, the occasional rumors that Theo’s parents were disowning him and that my sisters were thinking about disowning me themselves. But the truth was, me and Theo were drifting apart. I walked with Theo down the corridors to our common rooms, my head rested on his shoulder. It was a long Saturday of hanging out in courtyard, exchanging notes of bad jokes, watching the giant squid playing in the black lake, and laughing our heads off. We haven’t done this in a long time but to be honest, it wasn’t as fun as it was last time. ‘I-n-k-a’ he spelled slowly, nudging his shoulder so he could grab my attention. I shook up, looking up at him with my chocolate brown eyes as he pulled out a notepad and pen from his pocket. We need to talk, he wrote. His neat handwriting fills the pages. I nodded, then took the pen from Theo and wrote: What is it? But I already knew what it was. ‘I have noticed that we’ve been... drifting’, he wrote, being careful of his words, ‘And I’ve been having interests in well... other girls’ I raised my eyebrow, reading that last sentence. It wasn’t like I was mad or anything, it made sense. ‘Like whom?’ Theo’s eyes drifted towards Carli Weasley; A Slytherin in Iris, Jaqueline, and Isabella’s year. His face turned as red as cherries, and I figured that I didn’t need that question to be answered. ‘I mean, I think it’s for the best’ I wrote, tapping Theo to steal his attention away from Carli. ‘Are you sure?” he wrote ‘Hundred percent. I don’t want to make this relationship seem forced to you’ Theo took a long deep breath. ‘We can still be friends, right?’ wrote ‘Absolutely,’ I wrote back, scribbling the word quickly then paused, ‘you should talk to her’ ‘I will’ he smiled, then left to talk to Carli. _____________ August, 14 Light filled my eyes as I opened them. My hands pressed against the wooded floor while my mind was fuzzy from memory. I took a glance around the room; the walls were dark the dreary. The curtains blowing from the open window. Suddenly, I recognized this place as Grimaud Place 12, the house Remus’s boyfriend, Sirius Black used to live in before he died. But why here? Based off my furry memory, the last place I’d been was a duel between Death Eaters. Harry and Hermione were with me too, fighting them off in that café. ‘’Mione?’ I signed, getting up and searching for the house. They had to be somewhere, unless they were... No, they couldn’t have died. They must be alive, somehow. It was just a duel, right? But that didn’t help me as I walked a bit more down the dreary halls, my heart racing with worry. _______ Continued in N/C
Suddenly, I felt a tap on my shoulder. I screamed, letting my instincts pull it, I balled my fists and punching the source of it, only to find out that it was Harry, followed by a worried-looking Hermione. ‘Finally, your awake!’ she signed, rushing to check if Harry was ok, ‘We were so worried for you, we thought you-’ her hands stopped moving as she embraced me into a hug ‘We thought you died’ I nodded, pulling away from her. ‘How long was I unconscious?’ I asked, my hands moving furiously. ‘Two weeks,’ Hermione signed back slowly. I almost fainted; Two weeks?! Two weeks of lying on that floor unconscious. ‘Come,’ she signed, seeing Harry’s face looking alright, ‘Kreacher made dinner’ ______________ Jacqueline: @Jackie_Granger Iris: @That-OneRavenclaw Isabella: @Isabella-M-Granger Carli: @Carli_Weasley #Themostpeacefulbreakupever
