This is my submission for the Griffpatch 2024 Gamejam -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_ Please Read _-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- Warning: I don't explain anything in the game so if you just start playing you may be confused. If it's not clear you click the start button to start. CONTROLS: Use WASD or arrow keys to move around, jump, double jump, and drop through platforms. Press the space bar or 'x' to shift, transforming your character and creating a force field that moves other shapes away. Press the 'e', 'z', 'c', ' / ', or enter keys to initiate a dash, during which you will be invincible. Be warned, it has a cooldown. I personally like using the arrow keys and using the middle and index fingers to press the 'c' key and the spacebar. Tips: You can familiarize yourself with the controls on the start screen, before hitting start GAMEPLAY: Your goal is to get the highest score possible. There are two ways to do this: - Surviving, the longer you survive, the more points you get - Killing enemies off the side using your shape-bending powers. (Please note that enemies will only die after they have been touched by the force field) You have 99 health, taking damage when touching the edge of the screen or getting hit by enemies, each of which will grant a period of invincibility, indicated by a player's transparent visage. At the bottom of the screen is a juice bar. Using your shifting powers and dashing both use juice. Juice will recover over time and will recover a little bit after killing an enemy. Don't worry about running about juice too much, the recovery rate is very generous. When shifting, you will shape shift into another form: Square => Circle => Triangle => Square Each has its own characteristics: - Square: is average - Circle: can jump high, but is a bit slow - Triangle: can go fast, but jumps a bit slow The speed that an object is launched is proportional to how close it is to the player, and is massively influenced if its shape type matches the player's shape type. For example: When using a shift as a triangle, enemies and objects that are triangles get launched 3x faster than other enemies and objects. *Players beware, pushing enemies away will also push you in the opposite direction. ITEMS There are currently 4 items that could spawn, and are indicated by shining and giving some ambient noise. Here is the appearance and effect of the 4: - Circle with a heart in it: Heals 5 Hp - Square with a blue square in it: Fully replenishes juice - Triangle with a stop sign in it: Stops the momentum of all enemies. - Circle with a star in it: Grants invincibility BADGES Badges are special effects that you can apply to your character to help them survive. You can only have one badge applied. To apply a badge, click on the star badge in the upper right corner of the start screen and enter in the name of the badge you want to use. Don't know the names? You unlock them by playing the game. You can look back at all the names you found in this session through the settings page. Feel free to share some badges in the comments. In fact, since you read this far, i'll give you a freebie as an example. Badge name: speedy boi Effect: increases your maximum speed and acceleration for all characters. If it's your first time, please don't use a badge. It lets you get the genuine experience. Try challenging yourself by not using any badges. Of course, you could look into the game files to look for a list with all the badge names, but we aren't cheaters, right? PS Most of all, just have fun. My personal best without any badges is 412, can you beat me? Credits: I drew, coded, and created almost everything myself, with some assets taken and/or modified from scratch, and some emojis from Unicode. I wrote the music myself in Musescore. I didn't have a lot of free time so the code is a hot mess but my methodology is to never look back and if it works, don't touch it. This project is supposed to be difficult with a high skill ceiling. Patch notes: v1.1 - Changed the enemy spawn delay to be quadratic in relation to the number of enemies on screen instead of linear. - Added more badges - Fixed cheese -Fixed bug involving the enemy counter I want this project to be seen so tag spam I guess. I don't really know how it works. I heard not putting tags make your project obscure: D:
