Get the reference? anyone? Anyways, here we have that skit you all were promised. I wanted to try using a pallet and I think it worked out pretty well. Also some more characters I've redesigned to be in this universe, two of which were originally destined for @Cinderquin- 's fish-cat world. Anyone else remember Cinder? Some lore for you people who like reading what sprouts in my brain juice... Names! If you notice, the Ash in the skit looks a lot like Mayday from my previous project. Is it a coincidence?? No! In this culture, or at least in the culture where Mayday lives, identity is very important, and names are connected to identities. So people change names throughout their lives as their interests and personalities change. Ash isn't Mayday's birth name (also known as first name, since that's the first name they ever have), he adopted it during his adolescent years in conjunction with Hyena changing her name to Ember. They were very close in childhood, so designed their names to go together. I am also toying with the idea of "full names," like Ash's would be Ash that Follows Ember and Ember's would be Lively Ember that Dances Above. Full names would only be used in very formal occasions, and as such are meant to sound fancy. They are also meant to highlight an Aspect of the name, so for Ember that would be the movement of an ember. What I don't like is that it sounds way too much like how a certain tribe in WC gives names. And I want to research more types of naming systems through actual history before settling on anything. Moving on, Luis and Kurtis are also the first examples of a mix of, for lack of a better name, Wild-type and Civil-type species. (maybe just Civil, then the name evolves over time to look like Sivel. Yeah.) Sivels have never been mentioned before, and you will be surely disappointed to know they are just standard anthropomorphic animals. Sorry guys, gotta have somewhere to put all my furries. However, these furries have restraints on color and such. They will have the color and coat pattern of their animal species. That's it. ...Before you get into animal species/breeds mixing and all that sort of thing, that can introduce new features. But! Unlike with Wild-types, whose five breeds can mix freely, Sivils mixing can result in birth defects or even miscarriages. (also, for the sake of my sanity, sivels consist of birds, lizards, and mammals. no bugs or fish.) The chance and severity of defects increases as the two animal species get farther apart. So catxdog should be fine most of the time, but catxmoose can be dangerous. Birdxlizard is extremely dangerous, but not nearly as dangerous as either of those with any mammal. Infertility is a common defect, so even if a mix is made, continuing that mixed lineage is hard. But not impossible. There may have been some whole civilizations of mixes whose genes had found a way to operate normally. Maybe some horse birds. Maybe some horse rhino birds. Also, Sivels and Wild-types have antagonized each other for as long as either can remember. Wild-types are so much bigger, stronger, hardier, and active and have such different customs that its hard for the two to get along. Add my "fixation" idea onto that (ill talk about it later) and Wild-types really start looking like animals, furthering the divide. Sivils might also be from a different continent, so when they came over wild-types would look like some sort of feral giant from Greek Myth. So of course, Sivils would try to conquer the Wilds, Wilds would strike back, so on and so forth. Now! Fixation- a new idea for a trait unique to Wilds. Fixations are a sort of trance that heighten the senses, but direct all attention towards one activity. It leads to excellence in that activity and makes a Wild feel a mixture of happy, calm, excited, and euphoric. Fixations develop in late adolescence (so like 16-25). Wilds will often have enjoyed that activity even before the first fixation. Different wilds can have different levels of fixation, with the more heightened senses making it harder to break the concentration of the fixation. So the greater the effects of the fixation, the harder it is to stop fixating. Fixating is like a switch. When a Wild focuses on doing a task, they can suddenly start fixating, even without noticing or meaning to, and have to be "snapped out of" the fixation. For weaker fixations, an unexpected noise can do it, for stronger fixations not even being stabbed will end it. Hyena has a very strong fixation on hunting, so much so that she is unintentionally dangerous to others, but someone could fixate on piano or knitting or anything really. Although, fixations are most common with things that are exciting for the individual. Hunting, running, and tracking are the most common of all fixations. Thank you for listening to my TED talk
not sure who made the original vine, but credit to them for the concept.
