the british mark 1 tank was the first tank to ever see combat. it first entered the battlefield on 15th september, 1916 in the Battle of the Somme. tanks were created to break the stalemate that came from trench warfare, in which both sides refuse to advance through no mans land. the tank that i used for inspiration was the british mark 4 tank. the british mark 4 tank was the first tank to be used and produced at mass. the tanks of world war 1 had armour thick enough to withstand small caliber infantry weapons but could not withstand the bigger caliber of infantry artillery like field guns, and they were also vulnerable to enemy artillery fire.
