Ashfur honestly would probably be a better mate to Squirrelflight than Brambleclaw. Yes, Ashfur's love was an entire obsession, but if Squirrelflight chose Ashfur over Brambleclaw things would be very different. Brambleclaw would probably get over it and get another mate, like Jessy, Ashfur wouldn't go crazy. I personally think that that one apprentice that went to Starclan before the clans moved to the lake, Shrewpaw. I'm pretty sure it was confirmed by the Erin Hunter team that if Shrewpaw was still alive, that he and Squirrelflight would have been mates.
