While Scylla and Megara loved the sea, Elekto was terrified. She knew something was down there. She just didn’t know what. This initially didn’t bother Scylla, as she was never close to Elekto. Megara, on the other hand, was sympathetic and often attempted to coax Elekto into swimming with her. It did pose an inconvenience, however, when the time came that the sisters took up the family business of search-and-rescue for shipwrecked individuals. Elekto tried, she really did, but nonetheless her fears held her back. She refused to help, and stayed on the little boat at all times rather than swimming. This caused Scylla to grow bitter, convinced that Elekto was making her pull all the weight. Megara tried to reason with her, but Scylla refused to sympathize. Then, one night, a terrible storm ravaged the seaside village. Elekto had stayed behind that day, but her sisters had not, and she feared the worst when she caught sight of the boat, so small against the roaring waves, heading for the dock. Upon reaching the dock, Elekto was met by a panicking Scylla, who frantically explained how Megara had fallen in to the ocean and was washed away when they were caught in the brunt of the storm. She begged Elekto to come with her, to search for their sister. After much hesitation, Elekto agreed. Megara had been so kind to her. It was the least she could do. As Scylla steered the boat back into the heart of the storm, the ebony waves crashed up against the wooden hull, as if promising to tear the boat to shreds. Elekto’s terror was at an all-time high by this point as she stared out at the endless indigo ocean, the rain stinging as it pelted her fur, and her courage faltered. As she backed away from the railing to beg Scylla to turn to boat around, she found herself staring up at her very sister, holding a fishing net. Scylla’s face was a triumphant sneer, her features even more terrifying as the lightning illuminated them. “Scylla…?” Elekto’s voice wavered uncertainly. Her sister gave no answer, and instead, to Elekto’s horror, wrapped the net around her and shoved her over the edge of the boat, into the merciless ocean. Elekto sank swiftly, her lungs giving out as she gasped for breath and they instead filled with salty, ice-cold water. Her vision wavered, clouds of black beginning to shroud her mind as she struggled weakly against the net, only tangling herself further. Ironic, she would d!e to the very thing she feared the most. As the last of her consciousness faded into blackness, Elekto let out a final, desperate breath. Only… she didn’t d!e. She was… breathing…? Elekto blinked in shock, staring upwards. She was still underwater, still sinking, but she was alive. She could breathe. It was lonely down here, Elekto realized, but so, so peaceful. She would be okay. Clawing away at the netting, she managed to mostly free herself, and swam away rather clumsily, down into the depths of the ocean. She would find Megara, whatever it took. If only she had looked behind her first. T h e m o n s t e r w a s w a t c h i n g . . . - - - - - - : }
