As I turned my head away from the light, I noticed my bedsheets were all over the floor, as usual. "Why can't you bedsheets at least stay on the bed?" I mumbled. I groggily picked them up and made my bed, too sleepy to remember what day it was. When I finished brushing my teeth, I checked my calendar and realized it was my birthday! My body bounced with excitement! "Finally!" I cried out with delight! My family didn't make much money, and I almost never get toys or games, so that makes my birthday extra special! I rushed to change my clothes and dashed down the stairs, eager to have the day started. Once I got down, my parents greeted me with lots of hugs and comments. "Happy birthday, Mary!" Mom said. "You're growing up so fast!" "Too fast!" Dad said, pulling me close with a hug that was far too tight. "D-dad," I said, tapping him, "I can't breathe!" Dad let go and apologized. "Sorry!" Once I regained my breath, I told him, "It's fine. My friends from school always squeeze me when they hug me." Then my stomach grumbled, and I realized that I was starving. "If you're hungry, I made your favorite for breakfast: eggs and bacon," Mom told me. "And for your birthday, me and your dad also need to get your gift, which we dropped off in Kakariko village, so can we trust you to not make a mess around here?" I nodded. "Also, don't forget the rules, don't open the door for a stranger, don't talk to a stranger, and—" "Don't go wandering without a parent," I finished. "I'll be ok, Mom. You'll probably only be gone for, like, five minutes." Mom hesitated for a moment but then said, "Ok. Just stay safe." "I will," I assured her. When my parents left, the house got very quiet. You could hear a pin drop. [Rachel's POV] Scott and I were walking toward Kakariko village to get Mary's present. Mary tended to sneak around the place and do things she wasn't supposed to, like looking at her gift before it was her birthday. I caught her sneaking around the house at least two times, so that's why this year we decided to pay a person that lived in Kakariko village to keep Mary's present there until it was time to give it to her. When we were about halfway there, Scott asked me, "Do you have the money we were going to give her for keeping the gift safe?" I checked my bag, but saw only half of the money I was going to give the lady. I told Scott, "I have money, but not the full amount. I'll go back to get the rest of it." "Ok. I'll wait for you once I get there," Scott replied. ✄ – – – – – – Soon I saw the house in the distance, and I picked up the pace because I didn't want to leave Scott waiting. I was almost at the house when I saw an old lady sitting on a big rock. She asked me, "Do you have any money to spare? I am a penniless woman and would appreciate it if you donated." The person's voice was raspy, and they spoke slowly. I paused for a second because my family didn't have much money, but then I thought we could spare a little bit of money. I took 5 rupees out of my bag and handed it to her, but instead of taking the money, she gripped my hand sternly. The "old woman" disappeared, and in her place was a Yiga clan member. The Yiga pulled me closer, and I felt a sharp pain in my chest. As I looked down, I saw blo0d, and for a moment I wondered who's it was, until I realized it was mine. The pain was excruciating, and I couldn't think properly. The last thing I remember seeing is the Yiga closing my eyelids. ⟬Continue in credits⟭

Maybe I should go to the house to see if everything is okay there. As I was walking over, I saw a man that looked like he was a traveler, and I asked him, "Have you seen my wife? She has long, dark blue hair, has freckles, and she's a Hylian." "Yes," the man said. "Where?!" I was desperate to find out. "She's dead," the man replied, and a puff of smoke replaced where he was standing. A Yiga. But the only thing I could think of was the fact that my wife had died. I realized that was a big mistake because in that time the Yiga had the opportunity to strike me in the back. I fell to the ground, hurt, but not dead. I pulled out a pocket kn!fe that I carried for defense and lunged at him, but missed and fell to the floor. He disappeared, but then I saw him reappear above me and diving toward me with his knife, but I rolled out of the way just in time. I threw my kn!fe at him, aiming for his head, but I only got it to scrape his cheek, which caused him to bl33d, but only a bit. I couldn't do anything to stop his next attack. I'm sorry, Mary, for not being able to protect you, I thought, as the Yiga delivered his final blow. [Mary POV] I've been waiting for over an hour. I know I'm not supposed to go outside without a trusted adult, but I can take care of myself. I put on my shoes and opened the door. I walked along the path to Kakariko village; my parents once took me to visit there. On the way, I saw someone lying near a rock. I shook the person, but they wouldn't wake up, so I turned them over and gaped in horror as I saw mom, d3ad. That's the last thing I saw before my vision blacked out. [Master Kogha POV] "Ugh, what do you want!? I'm trying to sleep here!!" I yelled to my foot soldiers. Why is is SO hard to rest without someone interrupting me? "We have a child captive. What would you like us to do with her, sir?" the tallest one replied. I told them "You should know the drill! P0!s0n her so she forgets whatever you did to affect her life, then train her as one of our own!! It's NOT THAT HARD! Now, can I go back to sleeping?!" The group nodded and said "Yes, sir" in sync. "Useless" I mumbled. At least I had a new @$$@$$!n to train. ⏔⏔⏔⏔⏔⏔⏔⏔⏔⏔⏔⏔⏔⏔⏔⏔⏔⏔⏔⏔⏔⏔⏔⏔⏔⏔⏔⏔ Next chapter: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1102248706 @l_Zelda_l ♡
