Epilogue : Emily’s gone… We had to smash her door down and there she lay. Pale… there was a pool of blood from her left hand and blood dripping from her right cheek. Mum ran to her side and saw a sword on the ground where her left hand was drooping and a candle on the table. Mum held the sword and examined it with tears in her eyes. She looked at me. All I could see was a blurry version of her as tears jumped to mine. I fell to my knees heavily and started sobbing. Mum came over to my side and put her hand around me. Jalen stood at the doorway and let out a soft sob. Mum gestured for him to join our little huddle. There, we stayed, crying and crying for hours until the hospital called. They updated us on dad, they said he should be able to come back tomorrow. They also said we could go visit him now mum took the wheel and we left Emily’s body on the bed and mum had bandaged her cuts up so she looked… presentable. Jalen told me how he felt about my little sister. He liked her, and always would. He said he saw, as soon as he looked into her eyes, that she would be a great hero… My eyes darted to the room where she lay. Should we call the police? What if they think we did it? The whole ride was silent. I also noticed that Emily’s long, back-length, orange hair was cut to her shoulder. And the cut on her cheek looked like claw marks. Like from Eva’s hands… We got into dad’s room at 2:34 and he looked all cherry and happy. Then he noticed our red, puffy eyes and that Emily was missing. His happy expression quickly changed to worried and confused. “Where’s Emily?” was the first thing he said. How could we explain it? He was already in so much pain… and all because of me… . his eyes darted to me and fear danced in his eyes. I looked away, ashamed. “David…” he said coldly but warmly at the same time. I looked at him. He looked nothing but… sad… . I took a few steps closer to him. “Where’s my other chipmunk?” he asked. “Dead…” I said bitterly. “ She risked her life just to save us….” Pure shock, disbelief, anger, sadness all flashed through his face. Big, fat tears rolled down his eyes. “ Where is she?” dad grumbled “ In the caravan, on her bed…” I replied. He looked at me, then at mum, who was also crying again. And Jalen just stared down as if the carpet was so interesting… then a tear rolled down. “ I want to go see my daughter” he said, as he struggled to even get up. “NO!” We all shouted at the same time, and Mum and I lunged our hands forwards to stop him, as if he could even get up… and then we all just sat there, crying. A FEW MONTHS LATER: Her funeral was today, we were all crying and I will carry this grief with me forever. Jalen is living with us now, and we moved houses, we couldn’t bear living there anymore, we always kept one room full of Emily’s stuff, so if her spirit is still with us, she could stay there. I will remember this my whole life… The End…
