This project conveys a theme in A Girl Named Disaster, by Nancy Farmer, of that people should persevere even when times are tough, because if they don’t, the’ll never reach their destination. Examples of this are throughout my project, when Nhamo has to work hard to row her boat down the stream. Another example of this is when Nhamo had to mend the boat, as she did in this project. “Nhamo worked feverishly all day. She mended every defect she could find, both inside and out. She poked sticky cotton into tiny gaps with a sliver of dassie bone” (216).
