Chapter 1 - You Need Me 10 years, 6 months, 2 weeks, 3 days, 5 hours, 21 minutes, and 6 seconds. That was how long he’d been trapped underground, strapped to that chair. 8 seconds, now. Seconds are such finnicky things. In his “spare time”, he would watch through the eyes of everyone aboveground; the seconds ticking in his subconscious while his mind was elsewhere. For 10 years he’d watched as the rest of the kingdom moved on without him. He watched as the baker found out her husband cheated on her. He watched as the kingdom was invaded, and slowly fell after the invasion. He was bored, what else was he to do? 7 months ago, the once-prosperous Valentine Kingdom had fallen to its knees at the hands of… solo mercenaries who’d all decided to join forces. He could’ve gotten rid of them in his sleep, but alas, his magic had since been trapped within his body; he couldn’t use any of it. They were failing. In the Valentine Kingdom’s misery, it bit its own tail. The villagers had all turned on each other, convinced everyone else were spies. The higher-ups were practically at war with one another over what to do about the mercenaries, and if they were even capable of doing anything at all. And he was happy. Elated, even. Not because the kingdom was no longer, even if he’d wanted that for two decades at this point, but because there was only one person who could help them out of their self-destructive state. Him. For the past three weeks, he’d waited for them to come for him. He knew they would eventually. The “higher-ups” had discussed bringing him into the fight. Most of them said he was too “dangerous”, that he was an unreliable “wild card”. All of this was true, of course. But clout was more important to him than worsening the state of the kingdom. Only one of the higher ups, the Noble of the Venus Region of the kingdom, was on his side. Evan Octave. This one was his favorite. Octave wasn’t entirely on HIS side, however, more so… reluctant, but he knew what needed to be done. And so, he waited, a smile on his face. After 30 minutes, and 34 seconds, he finally came. The sound of unlocking doors could be heard. There were 20 sliding doors in a row, a long hallway, and then two giant double doors. Then he’d be free. The double doors opened slowly with a groan. Light shined on his face. He could finally see light, real light with his own two eyes. In the doors, Evan Octave stood with an “Are you happy now?” sort of look on his face. “You need me, don’t you?” He said, moving his hands to the best of his ability. He was strapped in the chair by his wrists, after all. Not much hand movement he could really do. Octave rolled his eyes. “Venus Chance, you are hereby freed from Purgatory.”
