It's about time I explain One Piece Fan Letter for anyone who hasn't reached it or taken notice of it. Fan Letter was released just a few months ago, on October 20th, as episode 1,124, and it's one of the best One Piece episodes so far. Just so you're aware, I haven't gotten this far into One Piece, I'm currently only on episode 760 something. But the interesting thing about episode 1,124 is that it's completely spoiler free up until the end of The Return To Sabaody arc, right after the timeskip. Anyways, the whole point of this project is just to spread awareness of how peak this episode is! There are a lot of Easter eggs throughout the episode, such as short flashbacks to the Paramount war, another of the main characters getting stuck under Oars's leg, and multiple voice actors of the Straw Hats voicing background characters in the main character's life. Another interesting thing about this episode is that none of the new characters introduced were given names. One Piece watchers just call them by their nicknames seen in the credits at the end of the episode. Fan Letter is about a girl who is an enormous fan of Nami. She figured out what the 3D2Y thing is all about, and now this girl's goal is to meet Nami in person and hand her a fan letter on the appointed date of the Straw Hats meeting up together again. At the very end of the episode, after almost reaching the Straw Hats' ship, the girl gets caught by a soldier, told that the Straw Hats will die as the Navy attacks their ship, and the girl can't go on any further and loses hope. But then her mind clicks, she escapes the soldier holding her back, grabs her letter, and says, "Nami-san, you are my hope! In this world where power is everything, even if I get hurt and trampled on, I still want to struggle, run, and live as freely as I can! I came to think that way thanks to you. I hope you continue to have wonderful adventures!", and then she rips up the letter. She opens her eyes as Luffy yells, "Set sail!", and she sees Luffy and Nami from afar. There's the part where I started CRYING. I've actually watched Fan Letter and rewatched it another 8 times, and I cried each time. It's really emotional and it's absolutely amazing that a single episode can make people feel feelings like that. I love this episode for the amount of love and effort the One Piece producers put into this, and for how well it was actually created. These are characters that aren't actually important to the story, they are just side characters that don't matter to the Straw Hats or Navy Admirals or anything like that, but they were given their own perspective and it made them SEEM important. Even the soldiers acted differently than in other plain episodes, and you see them giving it their all to fight and survive in the flashbacks of the Paramount war. You even see them chatting casually, arguing about who is the strongest pirate. They were given their own personalities and lives, which is something I have never seen in any other anime or One Piece episode. If you're past The Return to Sabaody arc, then Fan Letter is spoiler free for you and I totally recommend you watch it! Overall, Fan Letter is absolutely AWESOME! And yea, that's it! Thanks for reading all of my text of geeking out over a single episode. I just think it's really unique and I love it <3
Credits to the legendary Megumi Ishitani and Masami Mori for teaming up to direct this episode and create Fan Letter! <3
