=== Frankenstein Escape Room === - WARNING!!!! there's blood and gore and stuff so don't play if you're sensitive to these types of things - collab with @wolfiedacat - playing this in turbo mode is better trust (press green flag while holding down the "shift" key) - the words in the diary are not very important for the course of the game, they're just for fun :D - please comment if there are any issues/suggestions! ------------------- controls ----------------- - arrow keys or WAD keys to move - the jump function is useless but just for fun :P - click on objects to interact with them - the ones you can interact with will light up - note: in the game, there are often places where you have to click objects in a specific order to obtain the clue. for example, you must first click on locked doors to learn that they are locked before you can obtain the keys to those doors (because one must know what one's searching for before one can find it ykyk) - press space to advance the text - for diary: JL keys to flip pages, I (i) key to close --------------- the story --------------- - This game is based on Mary Shelley's book Frankenstein. If you haven't read it, here is the basic plot (!!! don't read if you don't want spoilers !!!): - Frankenstein is a guy who loves natural sciences. He become fascinated with making dead things come alive and creates a "Creature" out of dead body parts. The Creature becomes alive. Frightened at his own creation, Frankenstein runs away from his lab, only to later find that the Creature escaped. Soon, Frankenstein is anguished to learn that many of his loved ones, including the ones mentioned in this game (Henry Clerval, Elizabeth, Alphonse (father), Justine) are killed by the Creature. In time, Frankenstein learns the Creature's story - the Creature was initially good and all he wanted was love. However, because of his hideousness, all humans detested him and threw him out. He eventually learned of his creator, Frankenstein, and vowed to get revenge for being born. Frankenstein is tortured by anguish and guilt because he knows that it's his fault his loved ones are dying. In the end, after Frankenstein has no one left, he starts to chase down the Creature. This journey leads him to the Arctic, where he meets Robert Walton, the captain of a ship. Frankenstein eventually dies on the ship, and when Walton is about to return home, he meets the creature, who tells him that his purpose is complete, and that the only place where he will ever find peace from his misery is in death. The creature then leaves, implying that he will kill himself. - Many people confuse Frankenstein and the Creature... Here is a clarification: Frankenstein is the name of the creator, NOT the monster he created. ---------- reflections ----------- - This game does not align completely with the chronology of the book. In the book, Frankenstein dies before the Creature. However, in this game, the words in the diary imply that the Creature is already gone. this game is meant to symbolize Frankenstein's emotional state more than the events that actually happen in the book. In the beginning of this game, Frankenstein loses his memory, and he slowly gains it back throughout the game by witnessing objects from his life and realizing that many deaths were caused by his actions. In the end, Frankenstein is "chased" by the Creature, symbolizing that no matter how hard he tries, his will never be free from his creation...
