That is, until she moved into her new home, Applewood. It was an old part of town, recently abandoned by all the humans due to the high population of mice. Shortly after their departure, all the local street cats and the house-cats who were left behind by their owners started to live in the houses ("It's free real estate!"). To Sunflower and her family, all those cats were, not to be rude, sort of ordinary-looking. They were all brown, black, white, and ginger, and not a single cat looked like them. So the moment the resident cats saw Sunflower and her family, they started saying all sorts of things. "Where are you guys from?" "Mom, I want yellow fur!" "Oh I'm so jealous! I want their pelt!" "*le gasp* OMG, what's your fur routine?" But the two comments, the most common ones, really hurt. "You don't belong here, you mutants!" "Go back to your old town, you sorcerers!" There were all sorts of rumors circling around Sunflower and her family. It especially affected Sunflower's little sister, Tulip. Tulip, who almost exactly resembled her sister but had bright green eyes, was the kind of she-cat who believes everything other cats say. So imagine how she felt when she heard the rumors about her and her family being so-called "mutants" and "sorcerers.". Their parents tried to keep it positive for the sake of their children. But even after that, the residents were never satisfied. They didn't want the truth; they simply wanted something and someone to gossip about. Eventually, the residents took it so far, they decided to kick them out of the town. They bribed the mayor of Applewood with resources and minerals, as tall as a tree, to give them permission to drive Sunflower and her family out of Applewood. The mayor was one of the few cats who actually liked Sunflower's family, but he betrayed them out of greed. The day that the residents were about to drive Sunflower and her family out of Applewood, her parents went missing. The residents had already broken into their house. Shards of glass were scattered everywhere, the vases broken, the fridge ransacked, the couches torn to shreds. The smug residents told Tulip and Sunflower that their parents had abandoned them. Tulip believed it. Most people would, especially since their parents' pouches were gone. But Sunflower, Sunflower knew, deep inside, despite what the residents said, that her parents did not abandon them. She took Tulip by the paw and started charging to the open door, startling the neighbours. Then, they ran as far as they could, until they reached the border of Applewood. There, it was silent. There, no one would chase them. Both of them felt... empty, without their parents. Who knows where they even are? But they were too tired to think. They only wanted to go back to their den, rest there, and at least try to feel safe. They were wounded by the amount of hate they received at Applewood and frightened without the presence of their parents. Feeling lost and torn, they trudged across the mossy path for what felt like an hour until they finally reached their old den. It felt strange without them, but it was safe. ----- end of backstory ----------
