If you’re looking to lead a cabin, this is the place for you ^^ If you’d like to participate as a camper, camper signups will be shared by Yume @yumetopia sometime around January of 2025 (exact date to be confirmed)- leave a profile comment if you want to be notified when they come out. : ┈┈┈ ୨ ✰ ୧ ┈┈┈ : ✰┊FAQ “So… what is SDC?” Scratch Design Camp, or simply SDC, is a biannual virtual camp which runs in February and August, right here on Scratch! This camp was created as a place for like-minded individuals to engage in a month filled with fun activities, friendly competition, and also serves as a platform for learning and continuous improvement <3 ┈┈ “What are the responsibilities of a leader?” Leaders should: ~ Maintain a healthy balance between camp and real life, as well as encouraging campers to do the same ~ Contribute to the planning and development of your cabin ~ Oversee the cabin and address any questions that campers may have. If you are unsure of your answer, direct the question to the host(s). ~ Update minute counts every so often, and be responsible for totalling up counts at the end of the session ┈┈ “How do I apply?” Simply remix this project with your answers! Some apps do incorporate a theme featuring redesigned slides, but this is by no means compulsory- though apps are also judged on the creativity factor, so be sure to keep that in mind. Don’t worry about it having to be perfect and polished, this extra touch is mainly to showcase your personality ^^ ┈┈ “What are the cabins?” These are solely based off app interest, and will only be finalized when leaders are chosen ^^ The current idea is to use the different elements and principles of design (line, shape, form, texture, etc), but even with those there unlimited possibility to expand on! For instance, you could be leading Texture, and your cabin is a blanket fort. The name can serve as a concept to base your cabin off of, and should not have to limit your imagination of what it could become <3 Possible cabin genres: ~ Line ~ Shape ~ Form ~ Value ~ Color ~ Texture ~ Space ~ Typography ~ Contrast ~ Balance ~ Repetition ~ Pattern ~ Variety Remember that you are not confined to this list, you are free to list anything else that fits within the category in some way! ┈┈ “I've never led in a previous camp before, nor had any leading experience outside of Scratch. Would that affect my chances of getting selected?” As is for other camps, leaders are selected based off answer quality and honesty, as well as creativity in your apps. However, having more prior leading experience does not put you at a significantly higher spot when applying- especially in smaller camps, we always like to offer opportunities to those who haven’t had a chance somewhere else. ┈┈ “Can I apply if I’ve never participated in SDC at all?” Of course! We don’t expect anyone to have camped in a single session of this camp anyways ^^;; Though, having been in other Scratch camps would better prepare you for what to expect <3 ┈┈ “Do we have co-leaders?” Each cabin will only have one leader, since we aren’t expecting for there to be enough applications to allow for cos. ┈┈ “When is my application due? Are there extensions for if I can’t submit it on time?” Leader apps for this session are due at the end of the year, on December 31st! Extensions can be granted depending on the case, but only for a maximum of 24 hours with a valid reason (eg. technical issues, unexpected plans). Extension requests have to be sent in the comments *before* the deadline, anything afterwards will *not* be considered! Once again, do not feel the need to put 1000% effort into your apps (ie. do not write an essay!!)- we understand the timeframe given is quite short as apps came out quite late. Just put in your best effort within the allotted time <3 ┈┈ “When will leaders be chosen?” Leaders will be announced on the first week of January!
